The 24 inch iMac does have a 7600 as an option, and the video card is an actual MXM card, so it can be replaced. If you want to upgrade, make friends with an Apple Reseller (not the Apple Stores), and get them to order the part.

Ok, now that is cool if you can upgrade the video card on a mac. I wish PC based notebooks would get a friggin clue on that.

not when its soldered to the mobo. I've never known of a pc based laptop having the capability of changing the gpu. I've been in plenty of them as well from when I was a service tech.

Edit: I do know Nvidia and also ATI were coming out with some socketed laptop GPU's and were hoping it would be interchangeable, but the laptop manfactures arent implementing it because they want you to just buy a new laptop with better graphics when you out-grow the one you have.

We havn't bought any yet. But i am part of a small company that makes gaming computers and we haven't done laptops yet but have gotten a whole book of information on custom gaming laptops from one of our venders. I don't know what brands they are but they allow us to swap out pretty much any part in them including the gpu.

I'm trying to ask my buddy what brand and vender those are. havn't gotten a responce yet.

Ok, thats why then. Your standard laptop you find at any of the big chain stores, arent going to be as customizable as that.

Aside from my Macbook Pro, I also have a 2-year-old Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop that has a swappable video card. So they DO exist.

Congrats on the switch ! Make sure you have a really good password and turn on the firewall which isn't by default. On the password change app there is a little 'key' button, it will guide you on how strong your password is. This is the most effective way to prevent unwanted access.

Went to mac almost 2 years ago and haven't looked back. Of course I got mine before the Intel transistion so I need to get an Intel mac soon, probably a macbook.

you can use iChat if you sign up for AIM so you don't 'have' to have a .mac account. Which other than the backup capabilities I am not very enthused about. Adium is another choice as mentioned and it'll do just about every protocol.

Again Camino is a great browser that I use about 99% of the time. Try quicksilver it is another 3rd part app that I love(Can't remember the site though). Like drakino, if you have any questions just PM or ask. I'll help out anyway I can.
