wow! awesome show tonight!

first Ill start with what Ive found through some searching around as to what was said in Russian and what the manuscript said, including the red notes:

Dialogue:
Klugh: Mikhail! You know what to do.
Mikhail: We still have a way out.
Klugh: We cannot risk. You know the conditions.
Mikhail: There's another way out.
Klugh: They know us [OR They've recognized us]. We will ot let them [unintelligible]. You know what to do. It is an order.
Mikhail: But we still have a way out!
Klugh: [in English] Just do it Mikhail!
(pause)
Mikhail: I'm sorry! (shoots) (End)

So why was she so insistant on Mikhail shooting her? And what is this other way out that he mentions? It sounds as though they were given two specific orders; plan A and plan B, or maybe only one option (death) and Mikhail thought of an another solution and wanted to defy orders. Either way why was he so reluctant? Other than just killing someone, especially someone he knew (prehaps a friend), it seemed as though they had a bigger connection.

Manuscript:
were lost in his country, and they must
...by force and, if necessary, through complete social
(break)
...
...in some way pushed away Andrei (underlined). Nadji was not
... Afghan resistance, however he was an excellent
... He was a second cousin of an influential
... who controlled one of the north-western
... specialist, who helped
... mojahedins used against Soviet
... Nadji made up for [lack of] courage with intelligence and
... fundamentalist. As all radicals of that time, Nadji
... his medrese believed that they were holding back the West and...
... preparing the road for Allah, so he could wipe the unbelievers off the face of the earth
whereas Andrei thought, that the fall of Afghanistan will become an impulse to...
... [worldwide] social revolution
... 'Pakistanis arrived today', Nadji said in grandiloquent Russian with a strong accent.
... We knew that ISI would be involved in this.
... say this?' Andrei knew that
... 'I thought that you...

ISI isPakistani intelligence. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inter-S...s_Intelligence
The name Andrei is underlined in red and the note on the right says "My name is Andrei, too" . So is Mikhail actually Andrei, or is/was there another Russian around? The second red note next to "social revolution" says "I've forgotten so much about Afghanistan."
Another saint, an apostle, comes into the fold. St. Andrew is the patron saint of Russia
Sayid's alias in his flashback was Nadji, very interesting.

What do you think is the relevance of animals appearing on the island from the character's past? Kate and the horse, and now Sayid and the cat. Its almost like the island bringing back the other connections to their pasts in manifestations of the smoke/monster; Jack's dad, Eko's brother Yemi, Hurley's invisible pal Dave, the polar bear, but for some reason the animals are more real than the human manifestations (or are they?). The horse, the bear and the cat where all witness by other people other than those that related to them.

So why doesnt Sayid know French since he lived in Paris? Remember he needed Shannon to translate the loop on the radio.

There is a lot more Id like to discuss but I have a horrible headache and I cant think straight right now, I just really had to figure out the Russian bit.

Maybe the incident we saw last night occured shortly after he arrived and he left France pretty quickly after they released him (I know I would). He wouldn't have had time to learn much French.

Don't really have anything to add except for the fact that last night was one of the best episodes in awhile. Sucks that Locke blew up "The Flame" since there was plenty of info on the Dharma intiative in all those folders. Plus maybe Sayid could've got the Dish working again.

I thought about that too, but he would have to have been there for at least a little while, because to move to somewhere new and get a job (especially as a chef) would take some time, then he had been working there for a while (based on how friendly he was with his coworkers and that his captures had seen him early while they were walking by and it kind of seemed like he was a lead chef if not the head chef, since it was "HIS" meal the guy was eating) so lets say he was working there for even just two weeks and that he managed to get settled in and get a job in only one week (or vice versa), then he would have been there for 2-3 weeks minimum and Sayid is a very intelligent person, who speaks better English than most of the people on the island BTW, I find it hard to believe that forced to not only live in an enviroment where everyone spoke French but also work in one that someone with Sayid's intelligence wouldnt have picked up enough French to translate the simple loop that was being transmitted. Shannon was able to and she admittingly didnt bother to really try to learn any French and was obviously a twit.

Keep in mind that he was living in a Muslim community in Paris. There might not have been that much French being spoken. Arabic would be the predominant language.

now I find that even harder to believe...lol. These writers are very brilliant and nothing in this show hasnt or will not have a meaning and relevance when it is all said and done. From the cat even being named Nadia to Sawyer asking "who the h3ll are you?" to Nikki, which btw is anyone else wondering who her and her partner (I cant remember the guys name) really are? Why were they just thrown into the show and no one on the island seems to acknowledge it, until now that is with Sawyer making this comment. I am sure we will be seeing more of them later, perhaps another side story that relapses the time period already covered, kind of like what we saw with the tail section of the plane and its survivors. How about Russeau's interaction with Mikhal in last night's episode? It seemed like they knew each other and that there was more going on that neither of them were going to let on, we already know she is somehow tied to Ben via Alex.

Is there a little Iraq in Paris? lol, seriously though he was pretending to be from somewhere else anyways, not Iraq. I unfortunately can not remember where he said he was from. But either way that would make him yet again another foreigner in that community and another language to learn, so if he learned that while there then he would definitely have time to learn French, and it wouldnt be like he wouldve never interacted with French people.

Edit: I think he said he was Syrian.

Yes, there is a Muslim enclave in Paris.

Being an interrogator in the Republican Guard, don't you think he would already know various languages of the Middle East, especially Syrian? I'm not buying that he would have had time to learn French, especially if he's hiding in the Paris Muslim enclave pretending to be Syrian.

Yeah, I'm looking forward to learning more about Locke. My daughter (who has turned into a HUGE Lost fan) was bouncing off the walls last night. Locke is one of the characters in which she is most fascinated.
