I Smell A Darwin Award
Terrible tragedy.
Having worked with these animals for a brief period seven years ago, I can honestly say that they are EXTREMELY powerful, and you don't f*ck around with predatory cats.
Yes, they're beautiful and majestic, but they are hunters, and the old cliche about how you can take the animal out of the wild but you can't take the wild out of the animal is SO true.
If it's proven correct that some idiot(s) tried to climb the fence of the pen - thus assisting in the animal's escape - then the zoo is not really responsible.
The animal was doing what god designed it to do, and thus no option was left to authorities but to shoot it.
So now people are injured/killed and a highly endangered animal is dead because you can't save people from their own stupidity.
