I HATE winter weather!!!!
my gpa got his HD F150 stuck down the street so he called me and my uncle out the house with shovels to help out. with the assistance of a neighbor we got the truck turned around and it was on its way back home. then got stuck again 3 houses down. slowly but surely the AWD helped as much as it could. tires were spinning. gonna need a new set probably as some are slick. constant popping noises coming from front and rear diffs as the corner the pop came from i guess meaning power was being sent to that wheel. then got mere inches from hitting a mailbox....only thing that kept it from hitting the mailbox was the exhaust tip...which got dented getting caught on it mail box....then the truck finally did hit it but their was a layer of ice on it so idk if the paint is scratched. by this point my uncle went back inside (he's 50) so i just shoveled by myself and tried to make a path. since we have a loop in our driveway my gpa just went in the other loop with all 1 foot tall worth of snow....after a few minutes it was successfully back in the driveway...ive never felt so frozen. i suppose my gpa is taking the truck in to the dealer when the snow melts. im thinking all that constant reverse and drive motion CANT be good on the transmission or differentials....or maybe Ford made the Harley Davidson version of the truck as tough as other trim level trucks....idk. 1 thing i know for sure...I HATE THE EFFING SNOW!!

If I remember correctly the HD doesn't have deep tread off-road tires like I have on my 2WD Ranger.
I always run deep tread tires like that in the winter and it makes a big difference.
Oh and your uncle is out of shape if he gives up on shoveling that easy.
He is younger than me.
BTW my dad (who is old enough to be your gpa's dad) shoveled out a young kid today to get him unstuck in the road in front of his house.
The kid couldn't do it, so the OLD man did it for him.

When it comes to snow, tires are EVERYTHING!
If you ain't got the tread, you need to stay home or pay the price.
For all you Cali boys, if there wasn't snow in the mountains, you'd get nothing to drink in the summer. Same for you folks on the plains. That's why there's no salt on the roads in Colorado, because it gets in the water supply.

Ice is much worse than snow, imo. I grew up in the Pittsburgh, PA area, and now live in western OH, so I've seen and driven through plenty of both. Proper technique and GOOD TIRES can get you through all kinds of snow, AWD is priceless! ![Thumb](https://themustangsource.com/forums/images/smilies/thumb.gif)
With even just a little ice... good luck!

ICE
Back in the day, I drove Hundreds of miles in 1 to 2 feet of snow in a rear drive car no problem.
30 years ago very few of us had 4x4s.
Good technique and weight in the back of a RWD can get you though all kinds of snow. AWD is even better.
I have seen the best equipped 4x4s and AWDs wipe out on just a thin layer of ICE.
