Has anyone here had a DUI?
But like you, I believe I was VERY lucky that I didn't hurt myself or someone else. That would be tough to live with. Good luck, bro. Keep your chin up, and I hope you have a good lawyer.
In PA, It was a mandatory 2 month suspension and 5 points on your driving record. If you agreed to go to the classes, they'd remove 3 points from the "sentence"; not to mention the whole handcuff thing (no accidents, nobody was hurt). And then there was 5 years of a "passive" probation. The most humiliating experience of my life.

Well here in CA, it sounds like if you are between a 0.08-.10, they will usually deal you down to a "wet reckless" (if it's your first DUI). But the thing is, your insurance and the DMV still show it as a DUI conviction. You just pay a lesser fine and less probation. So it doesn't help you much. Either way, it's 2 points on your record for 3 years. Being 22, almost 23, my insurance is probably going to triple, if they even keep me on. The wet reckless (it's under the reckless driving section)/DUI stays on your public record for 10 years, and if you get another one within that 10 year period, they make you pay the full fine for your first one and you have to do a 18 month program.
No way in hades now we just developed a new cash COW see the story !

Wow! Canada goes into a "police" state...
Never had a DUI myself but a buddy from back in high school is sitting at home now his license suspended on his 6th lifetime DUI rap. He is waiting for the court system to get him through its grinder and is expecting to serve jail time; Again. He did not wreck or even get a moving violation. He was sitting parked in his pickup on a turnout up in the mountains. Best advice I have is to never drink before any driving at all. Do all that at home or where ever it is that you are when done driving for the day.

Back when I became a legal drinker, if the cops could tell you were a little tipsy (under .10) they gave you a free ride home and a stern warning.
Heck, it was actually legal to drink and drive if you weren't drunk.
While my Grandfather was living, he told me a story of driving home from an office New year's eve party in the early 50's. A cop stopped him because he was driving errantly. The cop drove him home. A kinder gentler time.
I imagine it was also a less crowded time, probably a bit less liklihood of killing someone else, as there wasn't the population crowd driving about as there is today, nor back then the correlation and control that there was between how much you drank and how impaired you are. Way different times... not necessarily better, just different.
I believe that the overall point is in *today's* society... if you're planning on drinking, toking, or shooting up or other 'recreational' use of materials (I don't recommend the latter ones, btw, but I acknowledge they exist...
) you probably shouldn't be on the road behind the wheel. Or else....
/Ben? Nice to meet ya.
//Alternatively: Nice last suit/dress....
