Thats another good idea... I'm inclined to think that a piece of metal would look better, and be less likely to flap in the wind, but some leather with maybe some snap buttons would make working on the wiring harness alot easier, if i ever needed to...

 

yea you could put snaps at both ends and keep it tight so it would look good

 

yeah, that might work pretty good, if you put a piece of metal, you'd need to weld it, and you dont have one do you?

It's amazing how the simple addition of tanks makes a motorcycle look like a motorcycle

 

I wouldn't have welded it, just bolted it on. It would be apparent that its not actually part of the tank, sort of like this



I'm really starting to like the leather idea though. Maybe I could have some cool design branded into it

I was thinking... if you use a metal piece to cover the gap, what about mounting a bezel and gauge on the front/top part of the tank where the metal part would cover the gap? Just a thought.

 

I thought about it too. thats what the bigger harleys actually do, they've got their speedometer right there. That seems like alot of extra work though, perhaps for the long run..

Yeah, go with aluminum Arin. Polished aluminum looks great, specially at such a visible part of the bike.

 

Polished aluminum DOES look good, but not alot of this bike will be polished or chrome. And the simplicity of the Leather is realllly growing on me

LOL, get that piece to look like the engine(?)-turned aluminum finish dash like the Trans Ams or the new Bullitt... be sure to wear sunglasses when riding during the day because they won't only be for the coolness factor, help kill the glare!

So i have as of yet been completely unable to figure out the electrical problems. I decided, just for kicks, to stick my bike on craigslist asking for offers

someone offered me $200 for the bike, not including the harley parts and extras, just the frame, wheels, engine and the electricals that the engine needs.

BUT...

He also offered to fix the electrical woes, once we talked more about the bike and i explained them, for a fee. we talked on the phone today, and im going to drop the bike at his place this weekend. he said he should be able to do it in about 3 hours and that i could probably pick it up sunday evening. at $50 an hour, thats not too bad. Of course, he said he didnt expect me to pay that kind of money unless id seen that he does know what hes doing, so hes going to have a few of the other bikes hes built around when i go over there saturday. expect some cool pics

I just sold the II's carb'ed intake/intake spacer/carb/distributor last night so ive got the cash to actually do this

shoot... I spent a few hours today tinkering on it, trying to figure out what was going wrong.

 

I really hate electrical troubles, specially on modern cars The battery drainage problem on my 94 was driving me nuts for hours until I fount the wire that was keeping the circuit energized, but since I didn't want to mess with the tons of wires on the wiring harness, I just spliced it at the fuse box and put a relay so it just powers it with the ignition switch. Yes, I know, is a of a fix, but problem solved.
