One of the strange things about my bike is that it has no forward frame lol. You just bolt the motor in and it acts as the frame.

I got the strut fully mounted in, I also put the coils back into the frame (they go inside the big area at the top) and plugged in parts of the wiring harness

Started cutting the frame, didn't get very far though. I need to get some freaking cutting wheels lol

I really need this thing to run soon. Its getting to be expensive to just drive around for fun, but with a bike it will be alot less.

I hear that! gas is unbelieveable, and with people thinking there was going to be a shortage last week, gas jumped from 3.41 to near 5.50 in someplaces here, and people were in lines waiting on it. I'd love to be able to ride a bike to school that gets 50-60mpg. Not to mention that wonderful out in the open feeling that I love

I just want to enjoy all my favorite roads without having to shell out a ton of cash

Driving and going to the range are my favorite relaxation activities outside of fixing/building things in the first place, and with the stress of school (even though I love it, its alot of work/stress) and of assorted things, I really want to go back to the days when I could just drive around for hours for next to nothing

Someday soon...

I hear you Arin. I used to drive around alot when I was younger for relaxation.

Even last year I used to drive around alot in the Mustang, quick drive, late at night to unwind. It helped me quit smoking when the urges were bad I'd get in the Mustangm, which I would never want to smoke in and enjoy the drive. Now I have to worry about putting too many miles on it.

It's like I've allowed myself a finite amount of miles and I'm already over budget.

I hate having a finite number of miles Whenever I drive now (the Bullitt, the II is not street legal b/c of smog ) I have to push for economy driving because of how much my family spends for our commute. My dad drives at least 60-70 miles a day, my mom does about 60, and i drive about 30 every day, since I take Bart.

I'm also making almost no money right now, so I can't even help pay for gas.

This is what my bike had stock:

Monoshock, older style, regular swingarm

In 1977, the first monoshock system appeared to niche markets and racers. It has actually been around in one form or another since the 1930's, but it was only in the early 80's that monoshocks started to appear on production bikes. Monoshock is actually a Yamaha trademark, but it has become synonymous with the design in the same way as people in the UK refer to vacuum cleaners as hoovers. (The Honda version is called Pro-Link). The premise was that manufacturers could save some weight by redesigning the rear suspension and removing one of the coilover units. Monoshocks are still coilovers, but there's only one and it's mounted centrally to the swingarm. On earlier models, the rear swingarm was a sort of basket with a linkage at the top-front. The monoshock sat nearly horizontal in the bike.

If memory serves, the selling point for monoshocks when Yamaha introduced them in the '70s, was they greatly extended the amount of travel on the swingarm. Yamaha cleaned up in motocross for a few years until the other manufacturers caught up.

My frame... is now... fully modified to the extent that I want.

First, the required tools for this project:

Grinder and mask for face



Hacksaw, mini hammer, shovel, stool, file



I ground away all the top parts on both sides of the bike, and slightly ground/hacksawed to hades one of the bottom parts. I wasnt able to cut all the way through, because of the angle and he hacksaw was hitting other parts of the frame, so I used me MAN MUSCLES and SHOVEL to break it



Some close ups of the grinding. They still need to be cleaned up and smoothed out, but my grinding wheel is in need of retirement. I'll finish when I get a new one.

Once again, the hacksaw didn't cut all the way through because of clearance, so I just ripped it off with my MAN MUSCLES. I'll clean it all up later

Motor is pretty much in. The two lower and heavier duty bolts are in, i don't have the original bolts for the upper motor mounts -> frame bolts, so I'll go get some from OSH later on.








Those weird shaped things on the "table" are the motor mounts
