More (sorta) news..

I know earlier I posted saying my motor was supposed to have 27ho and the "sportbike" version of the same motor had 45. Turns out I was slightly wrong. Or at least, the site I got my info from was wrong

they BOTH have 40-45hp. I'm gonna have to take it pretty easy when I ride this sucker

In other news, pete left his 250 yamaha here overnight because he came back from berkeley and didnt want his parents knowing he RODE here. They tend to not like that, so we said I picked him up from bart. He left me the keys and said I could take it for a short spin if I wanted. I've been itchin to ride for ages, so that'll be fun

Arin done did some maths...

Assuming taking off all the crap I didnt need (fenders, farings, big odl seat, grab bars, excess frame) added up to around 90lbs, that puts the weight of my bike at roughly 300lbs

With the bike now having 45hp.... That puts me at 6.66lb/hp Jesus H! this thing is never going to suffer from being too slow... a FORD GT has 6.3lb/hp....

Pete let me borrow his Sportster tank to see how it would look on my bike. I don't like the improper fit, but over all it isn't that bad. If I had no other option I could probably live with this tank, but I still really want to see a softail two piece on here. The bike looks pretty beefy right now, and tall. It looks like it wants to start a fight in an alley...

Thoughts?

I like it, but maybe if you could work on the tunnel to bring the front of te tank down a few inches it would look better

i say lower the tank and make a piece for the middle so you dont even know they are split.... then it will look more even

David, that's the problem: lowering the tank requires heavily modifying the tunnel. If I could have it mounted flush, I'd be in heaven but I need about 3.5" to clear just the frame, and thats not counting the top of the motor mounts that i kinda want it to cover too.

the two piece tanks I was looking at have turned out to be epicly long, but I guess thats expected from parts off of a Harley Softail. The tank in these pictures is about 15.5" long, the softail tank is a whopping 20" long. I could still "theoretically" make the softail parts work, but It'd be a lot of fandangling. And I would definitely have a piece for the center, so it would look like it just flowed right across. Its gonna take some more thinking though. I'd hate to blow $100 on harley tanks and then not have them work

Another option that occured to me last night was designing and having someone else fabricate a sheetmetal tank for me. It wouldnt be as curvey, but I could have an scary lookin coffin tank lol. I'm gonna try and mock one up out of cardboard later today.

up to 53.. not sure how much more i want to go..

also, ordered 2 sets of spark plugs. some honda four banger bikes use the same plug, so they sell in sets of four. it means arin gots spares! $14 shipped

I just did some googling too, its about $40 for a battery, $40 for either tire, $30 for that rear sprocket i need..

If I'm lucky I could scrape by ordering one part a week... lol, which isn't too bad

Soooooooooooooooo

THE TANKS GOT HERE And oddly enough, they match the Bullitt kinda well lol

annnyywaaayyys. that big ole gap in the center will eventually have the wiring harness tucked in. the stick will be replaced with real bolts. there will be a metal trim cover hiding the gap.wires and the tanks will be gloss black.

enjoy

you could make yourself a thick leather strap or something to go down the middle and cover all the excess.....

I was really afraid that since these are off a big bike...

...that the tanks might be a bit too big. But its the smallest tank used on this bike, and the shape of it all really helps too. It also hides alot of the ugly pressed part of my frame rather well.

I just need to connect the two tubes in the inner parts, one at the bottom for fuel, one at the top for (presumably) vaccuum.

whats also nice is that I don't think I'll need to adjust the petcock, (the open/close valve for the fuel tank) on the left side because its in almost the exact location as on the original tank. it also seems that the tank is at a close enough to original angle that the fuel tanks will have no problem using the majority of whats in there.
