It finally happened....

Gas prices hit the $4/gal. mark. This sign is a Chevron station in Santa Cruz, CA about five miles from where I live.

If only that place was close to where I live I would go get gas there. That is cheaper than what I am paying. I am currently paying over $4.76/gal where I live. $1.26/liter

Here's something I dont understand, gas prices between regular, mid and premium were always about $0.10 different correct? Give or take a few for the picture in the first post here.

I saw a station that I normally frequent (and tahts alot since I drive 44mi to work one way), regular was 3.39, mid was 3.59 and premium was 3.84!!!! I can't fathom a 45cents difference between regular and premium.

Someone please explain this to me.

Sounds like what we got goin up here... our differences usually go up 5 cents from each of 87 to 89 to 91 (pretty tough to find 93). so were payin almost 20c/gallon to move up to mid and 40 for premium. It alwasy pissed me off that the differences were so much bigger up here, but i guess theyre evening out now...

insert profanities here: ______________________________________

its rediculous, they can make more profit than we can imagine charging $2 a gallon. but because they have a monopoly, they're going to see just how far they can go. I hear all these stupid theories about "lets boycott exxon, or mobil" for a week, blah. What most people dont realize it that there's really only 3-4 oil companies. The cheaper gas stations like el cheapo, kangaroo, etc get their gas from the larger companies. Prices WILL NOT go down until a more formidible option comes around. For me, E-85 cant get here fast enough, when alternative fuel sources come about, and possibly some new politcal changes, it will go back down, because people will buy e-85 instead of oil

First off, i wholly agree with the futility of all that "boycott ____" idiocy. As much as id like a viable alternative, E85 is not it. Its ineffecient (at least in the cars we have now), and is already starting to create problems in food supply even with the relatively tiny piece of the traditional oil market that it has managed to grab. Theres no way that enough ethanol can be produced for it to take over. Aside from that, theres also a whole pile of other new environmental problems. We definitiely need to keep looking.

it isnt as efficient, but merely the fact that it will give competition to big oil (and that it's money that goes into the American economy for us) will eliminate the monopoly and makes it much needed
