Robbinsville, North Carolina area. Hit US Hwy 129 and experience the Tail of the Dragon. Done the trip twice now with groups of friends and makes for the best weekend trip ever!

btw, the dragon is 318 curves in about 11miles

Sounds like a blast if you have the cahones to do it.

I am in the process of planning a weekend getaway now. Somewhere in Tennessee, probably Gatlinburg, but we are bringing all the dogs. I know of a great hotel in Chatanooga that allows pets.

I like Laughlin, and I'll get stung for saying this, but better than Vegas.

Why?

1. Laughlin doesn't have people trying to hand you escort stuff, porno papers, etc. (Although I do have quite the collection from the last time I was there)

2. No one keeps asking you if you want to buy show tickets.

3. You can actually drive in Laughlin. The traffice runs smoothly, and there's no crazy people driving like in Vegas. Even if you don't drive, the Riverwalk is awesome (the path that runs from Casino to Casino along the Colorado River) and if you can't walk, you can take the River Taxi boat.

4. You can jet ski on the Colorado River from the dock at your hotel.

5. You can still get good buffetts (the Seafood Buffet at the Colorado Belle on Fridays, WOW)

6. It's a lot cheaper!

7. After you've lost all your money, you can still do something like the forementioned jet skiing, or you can go fishing.

There are drawbacks, like all the old people (no eye candy, unless you're a sicko) and sometimes the biker rallies are a little too much. But other than that, I'll take Laughlin over Vegas.

(Remember, this is my personal opinion. I still like Vegas, but only when I have an extra $5000 to spend, which is normally once every never.....well, maybe 2 years, if I don't go out so much)

I am going to annoy you all now. My fave weekend getaway? the Highlands of Scotland! It takes 6 hours to drive there, but it is well worth it for the absolutely breathtaking scenery

Waterslides
Go Cart Racing
Boat Rides to Shell Island, a 7 mile natural island with HUGE seashells.

The most perfect weekends of my life. Unfortunately I can only ever do the beach Friday through Sunday, because too much sun gives me sun poisoning, and I swell up like a dead dog in summer. I have a great scary pic I took to warn me off from being a smartaleck again:
Hubby: April you need sunscreen
Me:Stick it Brian!
As I slathered on the hawaiian tropic coconut oil..Laughing the whole way.
Come Saturday evening, my skin started hurting, Come sunday morning I couldn't see cause my face swelled up. Took 2 weeks to return to normal. I had to wear sunglasses to hide the worst of it.
Since then we have not left on a Thursday again, because 3 days is one too many in the hot gulf sun.
