If you have a Dell laptop that was purchased in 2004 through 2006, you need to check and make sure that your battery is not on the recall list. To do so you need to go to this link and input your Batteries Serial Number:

http://www.dellbatteryprogram.com

EDIT: I just found out that Apple iBook and HP's are affected too. Contact your respective manufacture for details.

If you don't, this could be you!

Also if you go to HP's site: http://bpr.hpordercenter.com/ebpr/landingpage.aspx

They are partners with compaq so some of both brands are effected. I think my wifes laptop may be one of them. Will confirm when I get home. I do know it gets hot as crap on the bottom if its not well ventilated. I have to keep it on a cool pad most of the time.

OK, on that site it said "nw8000". I got lap-top from school and it said "nw8240". Is that same thing?

Are those two different models or is it same 8000-series?

Zoran, i would think it would be the whole series, but there should be a battery model listed in which you can cross reference your battery vs the site. When in doubt, call em up!

Here is e-mail that I got from them:

Zoran,

Your nw8240 is a completely different series than the nw8000. The battery recall does not affect your computer.

I would have replied sooner, but I was too busy putting the fire out that was caused by my new Dell E1505 Insprion Laptop!.....J/K

Looks like I'll have to send in for a new battery when I get back from vacation. Thank goodness I never use my computer without the power cord anyway .
