Garage door opener hell....help me!

So today I go buy a new garage door opener, no more getting out of the car to open the **** door! Install takes all of 30 minutes, all I have to do is line up the stupid sensors. I run the wires & sensors to each side of the door and I can't get anything. I move the sensors to within a foot of each other and I cant get anything. I figure there has to be a short in one of these wires so I shorten them to about six inches each, hook them back up and nothing.

So obviously I can order new sensors, and the opener still works, you just have to hold the button down while it closes which is annoying as heck. but I don't really care to have them anyway, they're always getting bumped and what not, so is there any way that I can bypass the stupid things?

Are the sensors lighting up? I got the top end of the ones Home Depot sells ( Genii ) and I have an L.E.D. on each sensor ( one red, one green ). Also, try it at night to make sure you do not have "light polution". If that works, you may need to move the sensors farther from the door.

I taped mine together and hung them up on the opener.

is there a wire coming out of both of them? I would just cut the sensors off and complete the circuit.

I would not recommend bypassing this safety feature, take the time to figure out the problem. Make sure you are wired correctly. If you have a Genii, make sure the green LED stays on. If the red LED is blinking, it is not seeing the other sensor.

On mine, the wiring at the motor could have been a little more clear, check that. Based on what you have said, I would suspect a loose connection somewhere with the second sensor (or even a bad sensor) or the sensors are not lined up right. Again, try this at night or with the door closed.
