You would be surprised at how cheap you can get mobos. A cheap one can be under 80 bucks. For a nice one its usually under 200. I build my own computers, but if you're buying a new one, make sure its not the cheapest one on the market. What are the specs on the computer thats "fried." Is it a P4?

They aren't worthless, they have strengths (security[which could change], video and photo editing, etc.) but also weaknesses (compatibility, usability within the structuring of drives and file system for those used to windows, etc.). The usability and skills that I have in Windows keep me from moving over. I can also build Windows machines and upgrade any part without worry. Don't get me wrong, I dabble in Linux now and then, but Im still a Windows fanboy.

True, I do agree about the upgradability part, but compatability and file structure I beg to differ. With everything mac, there is an export feature to a common windows standard. That can be the default, or the exception if you deal with more Macs. ie: I have Apple's iWork suite. Their word processor saves in .doc format natively.
Also, file structure, yes is different, but I am a recent (one year ago) switcher myself. After a little playing with it, its much more intuitive. ie: all applications are stored in one folder. ALL of the application, no registry, no system files to manipulate, just one file that holds the entire application. That file itself can also be edited if need be, but its just one simple little file.

Thats good. Dells are good deals. The new mobo is probally Dell generic, so if it ever knonks out on you, just buy a new motherboard and recycle your old parts. Hope you enjoy the new computer.
