Actually I have read the comics too. The cartoons are actually very close to the comic cannon. I find it fun to see the characters in more story lines. I don't think it's a one or the other for most. I was hooked reading the comics and now visit my childhood through the movie/cartoons.

DCs new series of movies are pretty good. They are direct release cartoon movies. They break from the comics but use elements of the story lines. I haven't seen the dark knight cartoon series yet but it's suppose to be very tightly based on the 4 book series done by Frank Miller of the same name.

...anyway...stories are all relative. If I only watch the movies/cartoons then that is what is canon to me. I couldn't care less whats in the comics. I'd just rather watch it then read about it
