I've had 4.10 gears on my future mod list for months now. And it's getting close to the time when I am going to finally get them installed. I'm thinking about the 3.90's though instead. How much gas would you really save getting the 3.90's over the 4.10's?

I know one of the threads on milage i looked at had a listing of 3.55/3.73/3.90/4.10.

There's prolly about a .25 mpg difference or something like that lol

So, if I'm gonna get gears, might as well get the 4.10's, eh? I do 80% city driving, but make a few trips to Houston and back each year... that's about 300 miles each way. By the way, I have an auto. 3.90's or 4.10's, what does everyone think?

I don't have an auto but have heard 3.73's work very well. (Sorry, I thought we were discussing a stick when I posted before).

Not a problem, Paul. I know you stick guys forget about us auto guys. But how many auto drivers have switched gears? What size? And what were your results?

I have a stick also but if I had an auto I don't think I would go more than 3.90 because of the different gearing. I would probably seriously consider 3.73's though, especially for those several 600 mile highway trips, unless you don't mind high revving and lower mileage. It probably won't hurt mileage much around town.

I think going from 3.31 to 3.90 is equivalent to taking a stick from 3.55 to 4.10
Also, 3.31 to 3.73 is like changing 3.55 up to 3.90.

at what speeds would you honestly get close to the hwy 25mpg as stated? I usually cruise at 80mph, would I even get close to the 25mpg mark for Hwy?
I was thinking about this today....

Last highway trip I averaged 30 mpg Canadian gallons which are 1/5 larger than US gallons. That should be 24-25 mpg US and was running 75-80 mph. The car just hit 2000 kms (1200 miles). The car is completely stock so I think I'll padlock the hood shut so nobody can mess up a good one.

Does anyone know approximately how much the top speed is affected (reduced) by using the 4.10 gears as opposed to the stock gt manual's 3.55's?

In fifth gear the Theoretical Top Speed at 6500 RPM is 187mph so no there is not an affect on top speed you are still drag limited and you can get to the limit faster.

Thanks for the info. 187? is that all?...haha...getting there faster sounds good to me, although I can't think of any places in san francisco where i can go that fast.
