Ever since the BMW Z4 came out, people have speculated on when the M version of the car would debut. There have been several suspected arrival dates, with nothing to come of them. Well recently there have been a handful of magazines that have reported on the Z4M coming out. I don't know if it's real this time or not, but here is a quote from the July issue of Motor Trend on page 22:

"BMW Z4 M: The M version of the Z4 appears this September at the Frankfurt show, with the current M3's 333-horsepower, 3.2-liter inline-six and a six speed manual or SMG transmission. While not apparent in these photos, the M's launch coincides with a facelift scheduled for the Z4, which also gets a 3.0-liter six upgrade to the new 255-horsepower engine. The 2.5-liter remains the base engine."

summary:
- Z4M coming to market
- to utilize S54 engine
- to utilize 6 speed manual or SMG tranny
- all Z4's (including Z4M) to get facelift
- 3.0 Z4 to get new 255hp 3.0 engine
- unlike 3 series, Z4 to maintain 2.5 engine option

Z4's are already getting a facelift, how long have they been on the market?

Three model years, I believe. But the fact that it is already being touched up has more to do with the fact that most potential buyers seem to think its "flame surface" styling is to extreme.

It may just be a minor refreshing then, similar to what the are doing to the 5-series.

Here is what a german car mag is speculating as the restyling. Of course it's only an artists interpretation.

Ughh... They're looking worse and worse as they redesign them. I liked the Z3 but not the Z4

If BMW redoes the car, and it looks like the pic in the link above, then I like it. From the picture, it looks meaner and with bigger tires, it will have a more agressive stance. I think it looks good. Definitely better that the current car.

I had been wondering about the M version of the Z4. It was one of my favorites in the M lineup. Good find, Birdman.
