IROC is owned (or was) by a race sanctioning body for the International Race Of Champions. The Camaro and Daytona IROC's were allowed to use the name because they were the cars chosen for those years as the common car everyone had to race in the series. The series started in 1974 with Porsche Carrera RSR's. for 2006 they're still using a Firebird body and GM V-8 engine.

very true, it was aneat race to watch on the daytona road course this year.

this makes me wonder..... IROC has to ditch these old @$$ transams.. maybe a mustang replacement? ford would probably sponsor part of it. BUT iroc has to ditch its nascar affiliation. I am a pretty avid nascar fan, but IROC needs its own identity.

i dont think it was VW's intention to use the name IROC for the production car anyway. if i remember correctly when they have a true concept, they almost never use the concept name when the car makes production. Most of the time the production car is very different and just uses a few cues of the concept.
