Under Appreciated Speedy cars
Some rides didn't get the credit they deserve when new, or were once well known and have become forgotten in the interim. Like the Blown 312 Y block '57 Fairlanes, that had the kind of power FE V8 Mustangs only had a decade later. What other cars would you add?
Ford Fairlane
Gremlin 401-XR
'67 Firebird 400

Oh man, where to start.
I guess I'll start with the Cosworth Vega
Let us not also forget the 3800 Engine from the Grand National in the Firebird GTA
Even though they are sought after now, the LX 5.0 Mustang of the late 1980's was largely ignored because everyone wanted the flashy GT with the hatchback and the body kit.

The picture of the Cosworth brought back some good memories I loved that car she was one of six with a turbo. Unfortunately I had to let her go due to divorce

1992 Jaguar XJ220. It is a more or less forgotten exotic that Jaguar debuted as a concept car. Public interest was piqued at the sleek design and the V12 engine. So Jaguar decided to green light the project for production. But somewhere along the way engineering changes produced a much different car and many prospective buyers withdrew their deposits when Jaguar announced the final product would have a 3.5 twin turbo V6.
Those customers missed out on a screamer. The boosted six shot the slick looking XJ220 to 60 in about 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 213 mph--the fastest production car you could buy in 1992. In '93 that was eclipsed by the McLaren F1 (which claimed 231 at the top end). However, the ring (Nurburgring) time set by the XJ220 in '92 stood for eight years. Production ceased in '94, Jaguar having produced only 275 cars.

A Jaguar XJ220S headed for Auction:http://www.autoblog.com/2012/01/14/s...izona-auction/
Wicked looking; 2,200 lbs; 700-hp twin turbo V6. Top speed for the TWR editions was about 228 mph!
