If they can keep the weight down, this could be a nice car. It's got a 2.0L Subaru turbo Boxer engine.
Again, I'm going to say Ford should build a "base" model Mustang with a ~250hp EcoBoost I4 to compete with this, the Genesis Coupe, etc.

Interesting. A bit overstyled in the front and rear, and the interior is likely pure concept, but the overall concept is great: smallish, light, great handling RWD coupe. It hearkens back to the RWD Corolla GTS (if I recall the name correctly) rather than the FWD Celica. I remember driving these back in the day. Not hugely fast by the numbers but a hoot none the less.
The concept apparently has but a n.a. 2.0 Subby flat four, but of course, Subaru has plenty of perkier mills on the shelf that I am sure can and will be slotted under the bonnet. Imagine if they keep it under 3,000 lbs, maybe even 2,800, but stuff in an STi strength motor? That would be a power to weight ratio akin the that of a 400hp 5.0 Stang, but in a more nimble and agile chassis. Now that would make for an interesting oriental pony car.

I agree. It does look like a Celica, not anything like the '80s RWD Corollas. They are only trying to associate the "AE86" name to it because that is the only name Toyota has besides Supra that has with some name recognition with teenagers, thanks to "Initial D".
Speaking of AE86s, have you guys ever looked underneath at the suspensions on one of those? They look like an 8/10ths scale S197.

We can officially all stop ranting that Toyota doesn't 'get it' anymore, and Ford can stop worrying about whether they should build a C1-based Capri because Toyota has beat them to it and, more importantly, unlike the rumored Capri has gotten the drive wheels right. The base version supposedly weighs about 3000lb with a n/a 2.0L I4. If we assume that a WRX powered version of this car will weigh closer to 3100lb, taking into consideration the stouter driveline components the base version no doubt skips, this is going to be one poky little puppy. If the STi mill shows up here Mustang GT might be scrambling for a few more ponies quicker than initially planned, and the Camaro SS may really have a problem.
The only remaining question is will they get the price right. If a WRX powered version starts about where the actual WRX does I might be in line myself. Unfortunately I have a feeling this car might ask a premium, particularly in higher powered versions.

This is what I expect will replace the Scion TC here in the states. Here's some CGI Video of it from the video GranTurismo. It looks pretty sweet to me.

The frond end is way too much overstyled for my taste, same with the interior. But if the specs remain as mentioned, it will be a hot little bullet. Toyota has put too much soulless cars on their lineup, but if they put something like this into production, things will gonna change.

Like I said, I'd expect a Scion logo on it before anything else. The TC is Due for Replacement as a 2011/2012 Model and this would be the perfect replacement for it.
