TOP GEAR Tests The C6 Corvette
ya these guys definitely do go for laughs a lot of the time rather than being the ultimate fair reviewers... and you gotta admit, it works... these guys are funny. You know they're impressed by the vette's performance, they're just being obviously biased for the sake of humour and trying to pretend like they didn't see anything special.
That was a sweet chili peppers soundtrack too, i think they had like 3 or 4 different tunes, coulda chosen an older album though maybe. These guys always have sweet music.

I love TopGear, but c'mon these folks (the Brits) couldn't build a decent car until the mid '90's! And that may be a stretch!
Oh, BTW Clarkson had his GT bought back because the alarm went off a couple of times for no reason-no backbone I tell you.

Escort RS Cosworth? Sierra Cosworth? They are the performance cars I could mention (both won WRC rallies).
My 1991 Ford Sierra had better interior parts than my 2000 mustang, wierd.

I'm still waiting for them to review the new Z06.
Can't wait for the fodder on that one. Wait...it destroys nearly ever euro-box on the track and costs less??!? But look at the cheap plastics!!! Its a POS!!!

Was that really what they consider a drag race? Someone should slap that guy driving the Corvette for getting his butt handed to him by an NSX. The TVR is much more car than the corvette, however for what they cost, and for what a TVR is, run it against a Z06 and then check the results.

If he does, I missed it. As much as he was gushing over the car, deservedly so, I could not see him actually going through with having it bought back!

Everything here about crappy plastic is true....but seriously there is no way an NSX will beat a C6 in the quarter.
NSXs are fun, and when it finally comes onto the cam (at 6 thousand friggin RPM) they do get up and move (either that or just gets alot louder, I could never tell which)
But really guys.....they do the quarter in like 13.2-ish. There is no way its faster than the C6.

Yes, Jeremy did buy his GT back. He had the alarm system dialed way down, and had the lojack, locator device taken out. He talked about it in his written review about the M-B SLK55 AMG. He stated that he was wrong about the car being an every day driver. Glad he came to his senses.

Yay for Jeremy!!!
Every now and again I'll find myself beginning to seriously respect the guys at Top Gear, and then they do something like this.
First of all. A C6 Corvette Coupe is good for mid 12 second 1/4 mile times all day every day. In fact, you can't even pick up an issue of Car and Driver or Road and Track with a C6 in it without thinking that 12.5 second 1/4 miles are somehow programmed into the computer.
And yet, somehow, an NSX convincingly outruns that very car and a mid level TVR obliterates it. Having spent a good bit of time at the dragstrip I can tell you that the TVR in the video would have to be clicking the traps to the tune of about 11.5 seconds to beat the Vette that badly, assuming the Vette was anywhere near those typical mid twelves. Oh yeah, the NSX would have to have been running low 12's at least in light of the same. Yeah, let that sink in a second...no way.
What else can you chalk this "never, never land" result up to but bias? Seriously, make whatever excuse you like but even the typically slow tester's at Automobile Magazine couldn't have worked that one out. If this were Motor Trend or Car and Driver we would be laughing them off the face of the planet. There is simply too much reverence found on this sise of the pond for European Auto Reviewers of every sort, especially in light of the fact that they may be the most baised reviewers on earth.
As for the "ancient leaf springs", give me a break. Never mind the fact that they are mounted transversly and that this changes the car's dynamic entirely (and also makes them inherently different than the leaf springs on your dad's Buick Estate wagon) ....since they have been around so long lets make fun of them anyway. Everyone remember that pathetic Cobra Daytona Coupe??? It had tranverse leaf springs as well. Imagine how fast it would have been if it had shared it's Italian competitors coil springs?
Hey, those DOHC heads are pretty old too.......been around almost as long as the automobile itself....shouldn't we be making fun of those too?
My real problem here is that I can find a list of things to complain about regarding the Vette without resorting to the ludicrous antics they did. The interior is pathetically cheap when compare to comparable Euro or Asian sports cars. The body is nice at first glance, very aggressive and taught, but somehow is cheapening with age....and quickly (although nothing like the garrish C5)
Heck, I was musing about cars in the range of the Z06 the other day and it occured to me that, despite it's brutal acceleration and great handling, I would still rather have a 911 S even for more money. Why? Because once you have gotten past the speed part of the equation, you have more or less gotten past the areas where the Z06 is better. As a daily driver and at anything below 9/10 performance the 911 is going to be the more livable, and enjoyable car. However, I not now feel obliged to conjure up a video of a 911 S magically outrunning a Z06 down the 1/4 to justify my feelings....I wish TG felt the same.

maybe deep down, they're still mad at their former colony splitting off and outdoing them - superpower status and all. same with the cars (Le Mans, for example - although Aston Martin is owned by Ford! D'oh!)

of course it is! don't you guys understand them? They took it around the track and it was quick... they act all sheepish, trying not to call attention to the fact that its actually a good driver. They make their bias obvious on purpose. Its supposed to be funny! Relax guys! They probably just put a dumb-hiney who can't shift properly or something behind the wheel during that drag test. At least they let the Stig prove its worthiness as a quick car.
