Think I saw my first 09 Challenger.
I've heard conflicting stories on when the '09s will actually start appearing. They've been taking orders for a while, and one Dealership tells me they will be getting their first '09 in about two weeks.
Other sources have indicated no '09s until after September.

3.5L is a pretty powerful engine too. I had it in my Dodge Intrepid, however, Challenger's 3.5 is more powerful (214 hp vs 250 hp).

I took some pictures of the new Challenger with my Bullitt parked next to it to get an idea of the size difference between the two. I have to say, both the S197 and the new Challengers are beasts. I anticipated seeing orange, black and silver all parked in a row as I saw earlier this week. The black must have been picked up yesterday. So all I got pictures of was the Bullitt, orange Challenger, silver Challenger.
I will post the pictures later tonight.

That CAI is interesting, I saw another picture that didn't show a CAI in the '08 SRT8 Challenger.
Is it stock or a Mopar performance part? Doesn't look like it gives a complete seal from the engine compartment, and that intake tube if it's metal as it looks to be is bit of a heat sink.

For those of you saying that the Challenger is way too big, it's really not that much larger than our Mustangs. I remember reading in an Automobile magazine article that it is approximately 2 inches wider, maybe an inch or 2 taller, and 10 or 11 inches longer. The length is really the only big difference.

The Challenger is not much bigger than the Mustang. After having parked my Bullitt next to a Challenger SRT8 I can honestly say the only noticeable difference in size between the Challenger and Mustang is the length. The Challenger initially seemed much larger to me because of the large shoulders on the quarter panel behind the B pillar.
Keep in mind, the S197 Mustang BIG too. I parked my 1988 GT next to the S197 and I could not believe how the S197 dwarfed my Fox.
BTW- I sat in the Challenger SRT8. The interior is nice and the seats wrap around the driver very well. The seats appear a little too chunky though. The tops of the seats are wide and square at shoulder height. The salesman fired up the Challenger for me and gave the gas a few stabs. The exhaust was suprisingly loud and had a throaty yet raspy crackle to it. I'm impressed with the sound. That car made my Bullitt exhaust sound like a joke.

I think the mustang hides it's size with the design where the challenger does the opposite. The thing is built on the same platform as the charger and magnum and is larger than the original. Mustang probably is also though.
Check this out. 09 brochure.
I think they have something with this car if Dodge can stay around long enough. Other than the possible MPG issue, I might have went this route if I could have held off for another year and a half.
The R/T Track pak might be a worthy competitor. Not sure what it weighs yet. Should be less than the SRT and it has a 3.73 or a 3.92 rear depending on wheel size. What rear does the SRT have? I could see a lot of guys buying the 20" wheels to get 3.92" and putting on some lightweight 18" rims and therefore keeping the lifetime warranty. (Unless that doesn't consider the rear. It has to be a gas hog though. The V6 gets the same highway as the GT. The MDS is only available on the RT auto and increases MPG by a whopping 4%.
