thats some huge exhaust...can't wait to see this car on the market

You wanna bet the ricer crowd will put on some "huger" exhaust tips once they get their hands on this one? Probably could plug the exhaust with a couple bowling *****.

I don't think ricers will be able to afford car like that.

Wouldn't be too sure about that. For example, my supervisor's nephew (early to mid-20's) bought a Lexus SC430 a year ago and its already paid for. He has no college degree either. Family does own some land... Never underestimate Bank of Mom/Dad's purchasing power.

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'> it doesnt look that different from a 350z or G35.
Thats just a test mule with G35 sheetmetal, the production version will look 90% identical to the "Proto" concept.

Yeah, more like this >>

Not too many ricers will be affording this puppy at $100K. It will be a serious Japanese competitor for the Shelby - and even more so, given the ARL (**** rape levy).

I have nothing but respect and admiration for the Skyline GT-R, it's Japan's best and most famous sports car. In fact, it's an icon over there.
I read an article in the lastest TopGear magazine about the current concept and I can't wait to see it back on the streets.
It will, indeed, be very expensive, but look at it this way: at least you won't see any of them being "riced-out" by some idiots.
The TopGears article showed pictures of the real GT-R concept, like BC-Shelby posted above. Nissan's rep was quoted saying that the actual production car will have a slightly modified, more "realistic" front end. The rear end will remain virtually unchanged.
Here's a link to an older TopGear report on the GT-R from the Tokyo show last October:

I'm usually not a big fan of the Japanese sports/performance cars, but this skyline is by far the best looking I've seen. I hope when Honda brings back the NSX, it is better than it has been. By the time the NSX was axed last year, it was easily outperformed by a lot of cars that cost less then it. This Nissan will raise the bar for a lot of the Japanese sports cars.

So the new GTR will be 450hp? Does this mean Japan's "gentlemen agreement" for 300hp limit on production cars among manufacturers is no longer in effect?

That was broken a year or so ago with the WRX and Evolution battles. And i thought the agreement was actually for 287 hp. regardless, the cars have been making more power than that for a while now, but i think the agreement is gone for good.

Whether it’s called the Nissan Skyline GT-R or just the Nissan GT-R, the 2009 model is expected to cost $75,000 when it goes on sale in the U.S. in the spring of 2008.

The 280hp "Gentleman's Agreement" was broken really broken with the introduction of the R34 Skyline if I remember corrrectly. The car was supposedly under-rated from Nissan and acutally broke the agreement. I think they had to end the agreement in order to compete with the new american "muscle cars".

Cars had been making well over the limit for a while (I thought 287 hp), but the first production car, i believe, to actually be rated at over the limit was the 300 hp WRX sti. there were plenty of skylines, supras, and rx-7s that had been underrated for years.
