Here's the link.

One thing I noticed is this:

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>The Challenger concept packs a 425-hp, 6.1-liter Hemi V-8. It's also 4.7 inches wider and 10.2 inches longer than the 2006 Mustang.

Said Eberhardt, the Challenger "is a larger car, and I think it will be (priced) a little above" the Mustang.
It's going to be bigger, heavier, and more expensive than the Mustang.

With less HP than the GT-500. So you can either save $$ with the lighter GT, or spend alittle more to get a real runner in the GT-500. What niche are they seeing, again?

A 'little' above the mustang? I'd expect this car to go to production over $30k, probably closer to $32k or so. The Charger SRT-8 (which uses the same chassis and engine as the Challenger) retails for around $35k, so I cant believe the Challenger will be much less then that. It's definately in a different market than the Mustang.

According to the Dodge website, the Charger SRT8 starts at $38,095.

They didn't said which Mustang, so it might be little more expensive than Mustang GT, not Shelby.

38 grand is a 'little above' the mustang? the only mustang it's close to in pricing is the GT500, and that costs thousands more, so he had to be referring to the Mustang GT. Last time I chacked with my bank, a 'little more' wasnt $12k. jeeze.

Maybe he did meants Mustang GT. Just because Charger SRT-8 cost that much doesn't mean Challenger SRT-8 will cost that much.

Okay, I misread Mark's price quote. i thought he was talking about the Challenger, saying it would be around $38k (i thought it was weird that Dodge would give price estimates to early). so that's what my first post was saying: i figured the challenger for around $32k-33k. which would still be a bit more that the stang.

I was referrring to the GT, not the Shelby. However, I believe the article was not referring to the SRT8 variation of the Challenger. I'm guessing there will be an R/T with the 350HP Hemi followed by an SRT8 version with the 425HP Hemi. I'll bet the SRT8 pricing will be comparable to the GT500 (if not more).

Yeah, you're right. I hope they will also have V6 model.

Well, according to this quote from the article, there may not be a V6:

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE</div><div class='quotemain'>"I wouldn't say (that) with Challenger because that is going to be a car probably for the enthusiast - probably a second or third car, probably not competing with everyday transportation."

That strategy would imply total or near total reliance on V-8 engines. That would be a striking contrast to Ford's Mustang, a mass-market vehicle offered with a range of models and powertrains - vehicles intended for everyday transportation. Last year Ford sold 160,975 Mustangs, of which only 30 percent had V-8s.
I just don't see how they could make money on this with such a limited scope, unless it ended up being a rebodied Charger.

It's going to be too big and heavy for a Corvette competitor (unless of course you mean from a price perspective).

The Challenger is kind of like the Mustang in that it doesnt really have a direct competitor. It should be faster than the Mustang, but will be significantly more expensive as well. Its closest competitor might be the GTO, but that will be out of production within a year. I think it's more in its own market for now.
