I have stumbled onto a real problem.
Which basically means I need a second vehicle for reliable transportation.
My son is a tall ten, and my daughter is 5'3 at almost 13. They went through a growth spurt in the last year. When all 4 of us are in the car, which is most weekends, they are not fitting in the back too well.

How do those of you with older kids handle this? We got knees in our backs all over the place. Kids complaining, hubby complaining.........
I am NOT getting rid of the mustang, but I do love to drive it around whenever we go out. So how do I get around it?
Aside from that, its amazing I can haul large dogs and trees in there, but when we have kids in it we better not wanna bring anything home.

So what do you all do?

I'm 6'2" and I did manage to drive once with 3 other 6'+ people in the car. I just slid the front seats forward to make room for their legs and the rear passengers had to make sure their heads didn't hit the rear window by leaning sideways towards the middle.
Other than that I've had a passenger in the right rear seat a couple of times and both of them had plenty of space. Leg room in the front passenger seat is enough.
My only problem is if someone has to sit behind me, then the pedals are too close. In-depth steering wheel adjustment should be a factory option.
On the other hand, I never planned to take long trips with 3 passengers in this car. After all, it's a 2+2.

I am 5'6 and have tried to drive upright and closer to the steering wheel, but its VERY uncomfy for me.
We tried to fit two adults back there and quickly gave up. Between me being uncomfortable and them complaining......

Hmmm a perplexing problem for sure. I bought the mustang realizing that essentially I would be the only one in it with the exception of someone in the front passenger seat from time to time. Mustangs throughout the years have been essentially two seater cars. Why Ford bothers putting in a rear seat in the back is beyond me. I did have a six foot friend in the back seat last week for a 2 1/2 hour drive, he had to stretch is legs out accross the seat once he got the seatbelt on.

I'm 6'1" and my wife is 5'9". I had no issues when I had to have 4 people in the car and my wife sitting behind me. Mind you, it was a bit cramped so I wouldn't want to do that everyday.

I'm 5'9" and I fit fine in the backseat...don't know what you guys are doing wrong. I even had osmeone couple inches taller than me sit back there and they said it was comfortable. Maybe you should move your seat up.

Yea-
I got a pear and crabapple for my bday last week.
I put them in the passenger floor, and laid the seat all the way back.

I consider my Stang to be a 1 seater. From the get go I told all of my practical "don't get a Mustang" friends that the car was just for me. My one and only child is 6'3", but he has a 65 Stang or our Cherokee to drive. I am past the kid hauling phase of my life. When the 3 of us go somewhere together, we drive our F150 Supercab. I know none of this helps, but I've never known kids to be happy or comfortable in a car. Can't believe you put trees in there! Try to bribe kids or take hubby's car. This one mom I know considers a fly swatter standard issue in her minivan.

When I bought my Mustang my only hope was that I fit, being that I'm 6'6". Now that I know that I fit I could care less about anybody else. My mother has yet to set foot in my car to take a ride. But I did have two shorter friend's of mine take a short ride with me(about 30 min) and they did not feel uncomfortable sitting in the back!

I can't believe you haul tree's and dog's in that stang .

YOU GO GIRL!!!

haha. this is a good thing and it's true. The back seat is good in a pinch, and it can be used, but it's certainly not meant to be spacious back there.

My co-workers all wanted to go in the Mustang when I first got it when we went for lunch or whatever, but now they're not as enthusiastic unless they're riding shotgun. Most of them say it's not bad once they're back there, but getting in and out is a hassle.

So we usually go in another guy's Neon, because it has four doors, and he's not fussy about it getting nicked, or muddy footprints, or whatever.

Is this the only car in the family?? Get a nice used focus wagon or escape for the 'normal' stuff if you want to do it on a budget.

Its MY car. So I like to drive it.
I have a second one I wouldn't like to be caught dead in. You would be amazed at what Eleanor fits in her.

I once managed the four of us PLUS A BC Rich electric and coffin case. It wasn't easy but I did it.

Fun Fact: You can fit 15 2 Cubic foot bags of pine mulch in a mustang too.

I wouldn't have bought a Mustang if it were my primary family car. Mine -- its usually only me, bit occassionally a kid or two. If I were going to drive kids/family around, my wife has an F-150 Supercrew.
