Saw a Challenger in person today
#1
At an auto show, I expected to see it and fall in love, but it didnt happen.
They are very big cars. I would not doubt the rumors of 4k+ pounds. Even the wheels and tires are huge and heavy looking- the thing is just LARGE. When I first saw the pics I thought I would not get a Mustang, but a Challenger, but now the oppositite is true.
The Shelby GT500 looked WAY better.

The Challenger concept looks good, but if it's going to be built on the same platform as the 300 and Charger, it doesn't sound too sporty; it sounds heavy and LARGE. It would probably a good highway cruiser, though.
And people were complaining about the '05 Mustangs weighing ~3500 lbs?
I've noticed a trend where cars have been getting heavier and heavier with each new version, instead of lighter.
Look at the 350Z for example, it weighs nearly as much as the '05 Mustang, but is a lot smaller and a two seater! The orginal Nissan Z's were ~2200lbs.

The 300 is not that big of a car at all, park your stang next to one sometime. The 500 will hide a 300 behind it in a parking spot. I think the Challenger is a great idea. A few more cars like this and maybe we can get some traitor americans to get out of their lemming accord coupes.

Exactly, 9" longer and a few taller, and its considered some monster. The Mustang is a sporty little coupe as far as I'm concerned. A 300 is not as big as it looks. I owned a 1972 pontiac catalina 400 4dr hard top that was 19'8"'(236") long.

This isn't about 300, its about Challenger. Challenger will be just as long as 300.

In subjective terms, Galaxie hit it on the head. The high beltlines make many of these designs look much bigger than they really are. Even the Mustang seems more massive than it really is, especially (to me) from the inside.

He was talking about the five hundred i think.. that it would hide a 300.
2005 Ford Five Hundred
Length 200.7
Height 61.5
But the weight difference between the 300c and the Mustang is where you really see it.
300C/SRT8
weight: 4066lbs/4160lbs
Mustang 5spd/auto
weight: 3450/3500
The challenger will probaly be 3950-4000 lbs.

Let's not forget the weight of the 500. At 3,643lbs, it's 400 pounds lighter than the 300C while still being larger. Even the heaviest 500 (AWD with CVT @ 3,815lbs) is 200 pounds lighter.

Yea but challenger is not an exact competitor to the Mustang anwyay. Its a little larger, and a little more expensive. This is akin to the old F-body/mustangs and the challenger falling along the lines of a Chevelle, Bonniville, Torino, Cutlass, or well, challenger. If you look at how many of those vehicles disappeared, the Challenger is simply revising the entire class of full size coupes. Really, Mercedes is one of the few manufacturers that even make a car in that class anymore. Now, an slightly stretched S197 5.4 Cougar.......
