Aw come on guys that hasn't been a bad car. It is pretty nice for the most part. The latest edition sucks but overall they have been an icon.

 

As in, "Icon not afford a Cutlass"?

 

NASCAR has been so separated from any real production cars for so long that what does it really matter.

NASCAR was kind of cool from its stock car / moon shiner roots up until the early seventies when they really did base them predominantly on production cars and drive trains and you had a lot of real spillover effect on production products (where do you think the Boss 429 motor came from?).

Now they're just purpose built race cars with some fiberglass shells that vaguely resemble production cars to foist some sort of ruse that they still have anything to do with something you might actually drive. It's kind of silly and a sham, really, to maintain such a thin and ultimately false veneer of having anything to do with any production car whatsoever.

I really do wish NASCAR would return to its roots and its much closer link to actual production cars. NASCAR really was a significant driver of engine and performance technologies, and a testing ground thereof, in the '60s. The Chevy big block, Chrysler Hemi 426, aforementioned Boss 429 and many other motor designs were driven by the exigencies of NASCAR racing and we all benefited greatly from that. Now that link has been totally severed.

 

 

Actually, the Bodies on those cars are sheet metal, not fiberglass.

To me it was the ugliest version of the Monte ever in it's history. Perhaps they'll build something nice when they decide to revive it.
