The return of Wartburg?
I'm pretty sure I'm the only person who's excited about this, I love classic Eastern European cars.
Looks like Volkswagen is ready to start a new company, which would sell cheaper cars and compete with Dacia.
And that company will be Wartburg, after a 1956-1991 Wartburg from the East Germany.

A senior Volkswagen Group official has exclusively confirmed for the first time that the firm is considering launching a low-cost brand to rival Renault's fast-growing budget arm, admitting it is "following the Dacia story very intensely".

I wish ford would make a cheaoer focus.. Back when I was in high schoola nd ford brought out the focus they were going to be ford super cheap $8,000 car. A flagship for cheapness.. Now you can spend nearly 30k on one. The fiesta is going the same route and can be optioned to well over $28,000. It seems like ford and other auto makers make a good selling car bigger and bigger and more costly until it moves up to the next price point and size class. The ford taurus started out being a mid sized sedan and has ended up replacing the full size crown vic.. Same with the focus and now the fusion. If ford would release the 2000-04 focus hatch again(yes the svt also) and keep the price point within 10% of what it sold for back in the day it would crush kia and chevy.

The great thing about "cheap" European brands like Skoda and Dacia is that mechanically they are the same as Volkswagens and Renaults.
They do have cheaper interiors and less equipment and therefore are much cheaper.
While in the USA we get only Nissan Versa, Ford Fiesta sedan and similar ugly crap.
I would love if we could get something like this Skoda Rapid. 80 mpg for under 12,000 euros (~$15,000).
