Just saw this and didn't think it had been posted.

Dodge announced a new Police Package version of the Charger with upgraded brakes and the Hemi engine.

I've heard rumor that's why they did go 4 doors, since Ford Crown Vics are falling as Police cruisers and since Chevy gave up on the Caprice.

I must admit, as a police car...that is bad azzzzz.

I can't wait to see what the new Vic's look like. I still love the look of them as cop cars. Very mean looking especially in all black!

Actually, neither, it does have the same engine as the RT but it isn't the same car as the RT. Along the same lines as the Police Interceptor being a different vehicle than any Crown Vic available to the public.

if they can price the car with a HEMI about the same price as a CV, Ford is going to lose a lot of cop car sales.

Some things to consider though

-I'm not sure, but if the HEMI uses premium fuel, then the fuel costs of the precints will go up.

-Will the unibody/IRS be able to take the beating that the ladder frame & solid axle combination of the CV can take.

-Even with the V6, i'll bet the charger will give the Police Interceptor a run for its money and Ford should really do something about upgrading the Panther platform.
