Unfortunatley you gotta have them on those types of vehicles, at least here in PA you do.

That things amazing. Last summer i worked construction and we had F-550s pulling a cat or two and a bunch of tools each. I dont know what the max towing is but these were hauling 25-30,000lbs a piece.

i dunno what the torques at, maybe 650 or 700. And those things are goin hard, but they can pull em on the freeway at 110kph. I was pretty impressed.

Okay, i tried to do a search for that engine. I came up with this PDF about cummins engines for mining and construction:

so those are the other places you might find this engine....
it lists the 230hp 5.9 litre as having 990N-m of torque which i believe is about 730lb-ft.

They have enormous amounts of Torque and a much different power band from a gasoline engine.

For example, the Cummins has 520 lb/ft of torque at only 1600 RPM's

The Caterpillar is the strongest engine of all available in a Ford.

7.2L Diesel, 300 HP @ 2200 RPM's and a whopping 860 lb/ft of torque at 1440 RPM's.

That one acctually list at 520ftlbs of trq. But with that large amount of toque, you have a awesome allison transmission that is geared perfectly to put that power to the ground and make it a great towing machine.

Funny side note: Thats the same motor Dodge has been putting in their 2500 and 3500 series since 1998 Its a great motor and with a few mods, can make a whole lot more trq.

Well, not exactly. That's a standard ISB engine in the Ford, while the Dodge engine is another completely seperate version of the ISB. The non-Dodge ISBs have EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) and a rear gear train, and most (maybe all, I'm not sure) have VG (Variable Geometry) turbochargers. None of which are on the Dodge 5.9. There are quite a few different ISBs built, so different turbos and such can be spec'd on them. They're also built to order for individual manufacturers, as opposed to the Dodge engine, which is built to stock.

Until June, both the ISB02 and Dodge 5.9 were built on the same line, but the ISB was moved down to North Carolina to increase production of the Dodge.

The Dodge 5.9 currently puts out 325hp/610lb-ft torque, btw. But just wait for the '07 engine...

transmiision and gear ratios are different on these. there are a few of theses around Alberta with all the Oil money flying around here
