On the good news to be drawn from these numbers:
-While 13.5% is still a big loss, it's an improvement from from January (25.2%) and Feb (15.2%). It's not much, but at least they're slowly headed in the right direction.
-Lincoln was up (LINC!!) and affiliate Mazda was top of the heap...Lincoln doesn't even have the MKS yet!
For next year:
Ford Brand's still over a year away from positive numbers, the Flex and updated F-150 at least need to be established, probably 2009 before it goes Green. If the LR2 and C30 really hit the ground running, next year's LR and Volvo numbers could be in the green. Not much going for Mercury this year, and the XF will likely just be hitting the lots.
Barring a real disaster like war with Iran putting Oil at insance prices, or a major model tanking, I'd say midyear next year we'll see FoMoCo in the green overall, with the Ford going green, and the Merc plus Jag brands still on the red side.

Hmmm, I don't think it's quite the same. Buick and olds were essentially clones, wheras Volvo and Merc are quite distinct in looks, price, and packaging. Ideally, Mercury in it's current form want Linc to march upmarket and match Cadillac, thus opening a Buick-like gap that thye could fill. Then it would conflcit with Volvo.
Personally, I think Merc would be better served being reborn as something else entirely. Maybe a small, sporty car brand like Scion, but I don't know how Mazda would feel about that. I'd like to see them taken out of Linc/Merc dealers and brought to Ford dealers, where they'd be marketed as the Ford premium package, rather than a "distinct" brand.
