Just a short blurb on page 29 of the new Motor Trend that caught my eye.
"...all-new two door coupe said to be the spiritual successor of the much loved Corrado.... reportedly will be built on a modified Golf platform, have all-wheel drive, and be powered by a 247-horse, 3.2-liter V-6."
I've always liked that car... it was pretty much one of my first experiences of being tossed around a small road at highly illegal speeds by an older friend, back when i was maybe 14 or something. I didn't really know anything about it at the time, but I remember the guy telling me it had a supercharger. A turbocharger, I'd imagine in a little VW like this, maybe it was an add on... i'm not sure... Either way, it seemed fast enough to me.
The way i see it, the Corrado was to the Golf as the CRX was to the Civic. I like em all.

That would be awesome! I hope the looks of the new one are very similar to the look of the original. This was one of the cars I was researching for my brother's car hunt. I like it a lot, it makes me rubber neck when I see it.

ya... that's darn sweet.. I'm gonna base this on the font and guess that that's Road and Track, zoran? Twincharger sounds like it'll be cool, sounds complicated though for 170/1.4 liter. Seems like they coulda gotten that kinda output with just a turbo, but i guess part of the reasoning behind twincharging is that it eliminates the turbo lag.

I always liked the Corrado's. Very nice cars! I'm not too sure how I like the design styling on the new concept but I'm sure that will change from the production (if there is one) model.

I loved the original Scirocco, thinking it is one of the more handsome sport coupes ever made, and being quite light (not much over 2K lbs) and compact, was a hoot to drive. Being a hatchback, it was also surprisingly commodious for its compact size.
The Corrado really captured the sharp look of the original but took it up a few notches in terms of luxury and performance. Was really quite nice when the put in the VR6 to replace the interesting but underwhelming scroll-supercharged L4.
My only hope is that any neo Scirocco/Corrado captures the sharp, clean style of these predecessors but avoid the overpricing that was the downfall of the Corrado (and not a few other recent VW products).

So if VW builds this, wouldn't it compete against the R32 version of the Golf? As for the twincharger idea - the last I heard about a set up like this was in a Lancia Delta rally car from the 80's.

I think the VR6 went in in '91 or '92. I've got a friend with a '92 VR6. Pretty sporty little car, actually. I was driving a V6 Fiero at the same time, and I think it was only a hair slower than the Corrado (both stock) but the VW was definitely the better handler.
This was just this summer, so they were both 100k+ mile cars.
I've since upgraded to my Mustang, and he's now driving a BMW 530i.
