If that ever became law, the minute I buy a new car I am pitching the electronics and putting on a carb witn a distributor and points ignition.

 

Even if Congress started on it now, we wouldn't have to worry about them even voting on it for about 20 years.

Seriously though, can you even imagine how much that would add to a car's cost? And considering Canada doesn't make their own cars, they would have to either convice foreign automakers to install them (from Ford to GM to M-B to VW...either way, fat chance) or make the owners do it themselves. I don't think it's gonna happen. I think this will just be good publicity aimed at overzealous parents who dropped cash for those in-car cameras awhile back.

Arin, have you ever had a car with a carb? I have--I grew up in that era and have had to rebuild a few on both cars and bikes--and I can can tell you that fuel injection is SO much better. But this is off topic.

This proposal is so outrageous that I can hardly hold back my invective. I'm sure Ralph Nader likes it...

Personally, I don't see where the market is for these.

I can imagine certain situations where such a device might not even be safe, either, such as having to make an emergency high speed pass to get out of the way of an unsafe eighteen wheeler, or somesuch thing.

these are extreme measures, but I will guess that they would be voluntary and you would get a discount on your insurance. The insurance industry is also has a similar project where they put a GPS system to see when/where you drive and calculate your rate based on that.

This "speed limiter" would probably get a government kicked out of office the same way photo-radar became a hot election issue in Ontario 10 years ago.

Or else hit the gym and "pump yourself up" - put in a non-hydraulic clutch set up and remove the brake booster so both your legs get a workout. But now photo radar is everywhere and nobody has a problem with it. I don't like where this is headed.
