Since Echo failed, it will be replaced by Yaris next year. Yaris is already on sale in Europe. Engine is 1.5l 4cyl 103 hp, starting price is under $13,000.
hehe, we got that already up north. First time i've ever seen a car released in Canada before the US AND Europe. not too shabby.
of course we had the echo hatchback for a couple years, which was just another name for the european yaris.

Is the Aveo Based off that or vice versa?

maybe Im wrong but I wouldnt put it past them since GM and toyota like to share.

p.s. I know thats a 4 door model above lol I don't believe we get a 3 door version here.
*edit*
ok so after some searching I found the 3 door model that they dont sell here in the US. It Does look slightly similar but not exact. Maybe its just the platform they borrow? Although I also just remembered something about Daewoo creating this car. So um, I just confused myself lol.

I'm pretty sure they don't share anything at all. The aveo/wave/swift ain't quite as cool as the yaris, me thinks, so that means they don't share anything. lol, seriously though, I'm pretty sure they're not related.
THe even smaller toyota, the aygo.. (hehe, check out this SWEET video of the aygo. http://www.aygo.se/))

anyways, this aygo... its pretty much exactly the same car as the Citroen C1 and and Peugeot 107. Can you believe they actually fit four doors on that thing?! So cool...
I really hope ford gets into this segment though (the b-segment, i'm talking about, like the yaris, not the a-segment like this aygo, i don't think North America's gonna buy into cars that size.)
This is ford's current entry into the b-segment in europe:

okay, i admit, they don't all look like that one, but they're pretty nice.
They should bring those over here for sure, and they say they might be doing just that in the next couple years.
Honda is bringing over the Jazz, GMs got the aveo and the wave, toyota's got this... Ford should get into that market.

Ford thought of bringing over the Ka a few years ago but decided against it. I'm not too keen on these sub-sub-compact cars. Just too small for me. And usually they don't hold up in crash test too well. We have a lot more tractor trailers, SUV's and large pickup trucks than most countries.
Almost all of those tiny cars... Aveo, Echo, Aerio to name a few didn't do well in the side crash test. The Aveo did the best for the front. Still just too small in my opinion.
Plus those cars can't get out of their own way if they need to do an emergency maneuver. I think the auto industry needs to keep focusing on the technology in the engines rather than using size to increase gas mileage.
I don't like the looks of any of those little cars either
The Yaris looks like a grasshopper to me, the Aveo looks like a windup toy I would get for christmas as a kid.
I just have one question. Where do you put your feet to pedal?
