I found a Craftsman unit:

But it doesn't seem to indicate (for sure, 100%) that it will read DC current out to 800A. Flukes appear to cost a tad more but overall, I need something that will read DC current up to 600A. Any ideas?

 

Look at this one by Ideal http://www.grainger.com/Grainger/wwg...mId=1613547058 . It's twice the price of the Craftsman though.

Are you still looking for a DC amp clamp? I am a salesman for a national electrical supply distributor. Maybe I can help out a fellow TMS member. What specs are you looking for in an amp meter besides reading up to 600A DC? Do you want it to serve multiple functions such as reading voltage, etc.? Although, I must say the Craftsman looks to be a very good deal. I don't know much about the quality of the Craftsman meters though. I know Ideal makes very good meters, but the link to the one from Grainger shows $190.00. I will check tomorrow at work to see if I could get that one for less.

 

I'm still looking for one, but I may go with the Craftsman unless I find something a little less expensive. It should read up to at least 400A DC. It doesn't need to have other functions.

 

Ok, I'll check today to see if I can find anything. It will be hard to match the price on the Craftsman, but I should know something this afternoon.

 

No luck. I could get the Ideal just as cheap as Grainger, but no luck on any other models. Fluke of course is a little pricey. I even looked at some of the lesser known brands without any luck. The Craftsman looks to be your best bet without buying used or refurbished. I'm sure it comes with a good warranty.

 

SilverBossGT: Thank you very much for taking the time to check!!! I found out Sears has another model ($179) that has a built-in IR non-contact thermometer. I may get that because I needed one of those!
