Back on topic, we made some good progress yesterday. The double roller timing chain w sprockets, cylinder heads, rocker arms w push rods, timing cover, oil pump w pick up and the oil pan are installed. It's looking pretty good already. Unfortunately, I left my camera and couldn't get any pics I'll try to bring it with me next time.

Intake manifold & carb is installed. My friend bought like 30+ stainless steel bolts for the rest of the engine's brackets & stuff. He told me he's sick and tired of rusted bolts. Next would be to make a new fuel pump to carb fuel line and relocate the fuel filter he previously has. Also the wagon will be towed to the shop he works in to get the engine bay detailed before dropping the engine back in. Also he wants to make new trans cooler lines and redo the auto trans while it's out of the car since it was starting to act up kinda weird. He was asking for a better shift kit to replace the one he already has. He commented to me that around here are a few cars that chirp the tires in the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts while just cruising. His had to be given a good mash in the throttle to chirp 1-2. Maybe a torque converter will be needed too? We need to make some serious research. lol.

A "aggressive" shift kit can give you that kind of result. Have seen it - and personally wouldn't want to drive something like that if the road is wet... Depending on the engine's final state of tune (power band) probably shouldn't go too crazy with the torque converter stall speed - especially if it will see more street use. A good stacked plate style trans cooler will help the trans live longer. Get the biggest one that can be fitted.

Update!
For some time, the wagon has been on the back burner, but here's ir's most recent progress. The engine bay has been given a much needed TLC, and the result shows!
Wiper cowl cover after a little polishing.
Some rust was found under the wiper cowl cover, so it was fixed.
The transmission was going to be rebuilt, but the case had a few stripped bolt threads, so he bought another one to have a performance rebuild. It may be ready this week.

It already had many parts either replaced or rebuilt over the years, so they just needed some detailing.
He thought the same too, bur since it will be back to dd duty , and the fact that a Rat engine transplant would cost an arm and a leg, both in parts & gas, he didn't do it. But it would be fun to either have a Lt1 or LSX under the hood later on. An overdrive transmission swap would be nice too. He loves that wagon!

Autozone fail!
We're in the process of removing the crankshafy due to a defective bolt thread. This sucks.

We finished @ 2am
My friend went to exchange the defective crank to the store. Balancer bolt thread, checked ok, BUT the rear oil seal was for a one piece style, so it was re-ordered. The ETA is on the 7th. Hope they get it right this time or else the crank will be returned and get a refund to buy a new one from summit racing.

A brand new crank was ordered, arrived Thursday. We'll proceed to install it right now.

The crankshaft is bolted and torqued on the main caps, but due to the rain we had to stop and we could't torque the connecting rod bolts.

Update:
The engine's finished! It's in the car now. Just finish some details and it's fire-up time.
