Miata gets folding hardtop option for '07
wow thats kinda cool
drove the new miata, did not have the puch that i would have liked. Very numb steering compared to the old manual steering cars. But its a very nice ride, folding hardtop is pretty sweet

That's cool and all, but not for a Miata, err, MX-5. The whole point of those cars is small size and lowe weight. The hard top can't help but add weight.
Now, on a Solstice/Sky/TT/350Z/et al., that would be sweet.

Well, it looks like the hardtop version will cost about 1-2K more than the ragtop

I can't see this continuing for very long. To me it defeats the raison d'etre of this car: simple and affordable.
My opinion doesn't matter though, as I'm not in the market for any vehicle in the next year. I'm saving my money for my move to Poland next summer.

The top operation isn't the issue, the top material is. In Wine Country you can commute in rags no trouble, but in PHX, LA, CHI, NY, DET, etc metro areas a cloth top is just screaming fo vandalism or B&E.
