wow thats kinda cool

drove the new miata, did not have the puch that i would have liked. Very numb steering compared to the old manual steering cars. But its a very nice ride, folding hardtop is pretty sweet

How about a fastback coupe version instead? IMO, folding hardtop adds unneeded weight/complexity to MX-5's relative "simplicity".

The Miata is TINY. I couldnt even close the door. Thats a sexy looking hardtop though.

That's cool and all, but not for a Miata, err, MX-5. The whole point of those cars is small size and lowe weight. The hard top can't help but add weight.

Now, on a Solstice/Sky/TT/350Z/et al., that would be sweet.

I don't see the point either. Besides adding cost, complexity and weight to the car it looks like it also eliminates most of what was a very tiny trunk to begin with.

Well, it looks like the hardtop version will cost about 1-2K more than the ragtop

I can't see this continuing for very long. To me it defeats the raison d'etre of this car: simple and affordable.

My opinion doesn't matter though, as I'm not in the market for any vehicle in the next year. I'm saving my money for my move to Poland next summer.

Plenty of people are using Miatas as daily drivers; for many of them such an option would be very desirable, especially at such a relatively low markup.

Why is this desirable? It takes next to no time to put up the soft top. I know; I've done it many times. It's a great daily driver: fun, great mpg, and a ragtop to boot.

Oh well. To each his own.

The top operation isn't the issue, the top material is. In Wine Country you can commute in rags no trouble, but in PHX, LA, CHI, NY, DET, etc metro areas a cloth top is just screaming fo vandalism or B&E.
