Nice! I had a 99 GC with the 4.0 straight six. That engine was bullet proof!
You'll love it, no fuel mileage, but very comfortable, drives very well for an early SUV.
Do keep an eye on your taillights however, they have a problem with not working. If the contacts stop working on the bulb holder, it'll cause the lights to go out when you push the brakes. You'll either have to bend back the contact points or buy a new bulb holder, or whatever they call it. Not very well designed. I used to carry around 2 extras just because.

Yea the drivers side window buttons don't work when the door is open but do work when the door is closed. The thing really is pretty clean aside from needing a cleaning. ha. The paint is taking some elbow grease but is coming out nice, shinny and smooth. Washed it with dawn clay barred it washed with dawn again hit it with some swirl remover a time or two.
The engine is almost out, then we shall see what it needs.

trying to figure out what I should ask for it when I'm done fixing it up. This one just sold but is in better shape with fewer miles. 6500 bucks nice http://www.ebay.com/itm/191102728959?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
and here's another one, mine is in better shape than this one and of course mine will have a refreshed engine.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/291104063688?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AITwe shall see what that one sells for.
I was hoping for something between 4 and 5k we shall see.

Spun a bearing
had the crank turned
ordered all gaskets, seals and bearings
ordered a piston, rings, connecting rod and all rod bolts.
honed the cylinders and cleaned the block up this weekend.
Still need to order an oil pump and timing gear and chain set.
I going to lap the valves myself and replace the guide seals.
I still need to fix the camber, just looking at it I know its to far off.
Replaced one headlight to match the other new one the previous people installed.
Dan is in the process of painting the wheels. The clear coat is flaking off.
Clay bared followed that up with some swirl remover and then threw a coat of wax on it. Looks purdy good.
Interior is all detailed. Still has a rip in the drivers seat. IO would like to get that fixed some how.
The trans fluid looks new. Hopefully the trans was replaced not to long ago.
I think so far we have about $1600 into it and time.

You are really moving along quickly on your engine rebuild. The 4.7 liter is a fabulous engine. I have the 4.7 liter in my 2000 Jeep GC and it pulls really well. I have 198000 miles on it and it runs like a new engine. Once you have the engine rebuilt, I do not think you will want to get rid of your GC. You will be amazed at how well the 4.7 liter engine performs.

crank, pistons, oil pan and oil pump all in the block. Have to finish up lapping the valves on one head. That as soon as my partner/son finishes cleaning it. Also waiting on a timing gear kit. Should be to my door soon.

I've been slacking a bit. I got it all back together turned the key and bent 4 valves on the drivers side head.
I was a little off on the timing chain setup. I talked to a mopar tech and he said the guys hate it when they have to do these. He said it just ruins their day because this setup is so stupid and has been discontinued. Anyway its almost back together and I'm very sure its back the right way. Man I started this in March but I only have about 40 hours into this entire project. I picked up an 04 Mazda 6 that needed some work and is up for sale now so that took some time.
I didn't think anyone was paying attention to this thread so I stopped adding to it. I guess I should add that I have done many different timing chain setups without fail in the past. V-4 Motorcycle's as well several cars.
