Your office could be near a radio device (or radio tower) which could boost the signal (and therefore the range).

Sorry... it's just not possible for the cell phone to do it. Chalk it up to coincidence.

interesting theory...ok

Given that they operate at RF frequencies between 300 and 500 MHz, so do the mid channels of a cable TV system. A typical system in todays industry runs at frequencies between 54 MHz on the low end and 750 MHz on the high end. In any given outside plant cable TV system there is a certain amount of cable TV leakage, called CLI, that is caused by loose connections, kinks in the aluminum, or lines that are not terminated correctly. Cable TV companies are, by law, supposed to correct these leaks in a timely manor (systemwide checks are made every six month).

I didn't realize that the keyfobs worked at a distance of up to 300 feet. Fool me once. But as for Richards keys working, it could be that there was a significant Cable leakage in the area big enough to carry his key's signal from the building to the parking lot. I can't say for sure because I don't know if that is even possible given that the keyfob signal is encrypted. Oh well, just an idea.

try while sitting in an office building.
From the third floor of my office building, I made my car's lights blink and the horn honk by pressing the lock button twice on my remote. The car was parked at the back of the lot away from the building. I'm surprised the remote worked from that far away. I guess it's a line-of-sight thing since it's a straight shot down from here to the car with nothing but a piece of glass in the way.

No snipe hunting, you have to acatch too many to make a meal.

Now if you need any relative bearing grease though, let me know!

Office Space takeoff:

Engineer: "So, you want us to fix Global Windows?"
Ford Exec: "Naw, it's just not going to work anymore."
