What other stylistic affectations have also sunk into the mire of hopelessly played out:

Fake hood scoops
Fake trunk spoilers
Stickers for any aftermarket vendor
Front fender vents
Blue headlights
20"+ chrome wheels
Coffee can exhaust outlets
Painted dash panels

On the other hand, what might be the cutting edge stylistic trends to come?

Underbody airflow management (rear diffusers)
Metal/Ceramic brakes
CF body panels
Clear engine covers
Combo Nav/Radio units
???

Change that CF to plastic and I'm with you on both these items. In fact I expect to see a lot more of both. Ford has flirted with mass production under-body airflow in the past and I would be surprised if full length belly pans and some form of mild rear diffuser don't become commonplace at some point.

Also, as can be seen with the new 3-Series plastic isn't the turn-off for consumers that it once was. I look for a significant rise in the number of cars with plastic fenders and roof panels in the near future since the same is cost effective and easy to produce.
