Help!!! I need some advice!

I am going to look at this car tommorow afternoon:

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...ce=&cardist=43

I think I can back him down on the price a bit. The only things that don't work are the passenger side power door lock, the spring in the ash tray, and the electronic fuel door release. All of those things are relatively easy fixes.

The part that scares me is the mileage. I'm not expecting the car to be a daily driver but at the same time I want it to run reliably for weekends. I'm only planning on putting about 3k on it a year tops and in the next couple of years will obviously work on the engine more.

If it's a straight Stang, is this something worth going for or am I asking for trouble? Any advice ASAP would be much appreciated!

Thanks,
Andy

I'd be suspicious of the mileage. That's pretty darn low for that vintage vehicle, did you research the VIN#? Have a mechanic look at it before you complete the deal, just in case the "few easy fixes" turn out to be the smoke hiding the fire. TEST DRIVE!

Other than that, good-condition Fox 5.0's can be fun cars and there's no shortage of aftermarket fun to be had with them, so if it all checks out I think you'll be happy.

Of course you need to be suspicious of the mileage, but you never know.
My last car had only 53K on it and it was 30 years old.
If it is what you want and it checks out, buy it.

Wouldn't it be a high mileage car?

Or is it reasonable for the age?

The problem with having a mechanic check it out is that it is 60+ miles away from me.

I will run a carfax however.

Anything specific I should look for? Clues to a good or bad Fox?

BTW, there was a 91 LX with 59k on it for sale for $6400 but that was really suspicious. I ran the VIN and it came back a salvage.

My buddy's has over 300k on it and still runs strong.
Even 200k could be called low miles.
Carfax won't tell you everything especially with older cars.
You have to look at it. Picture looks great though.

First thing that popped in my head when I read 'clear headlights and a/c conversion' is minor front end accident required the headlights and condensor to be replaced. That's not necessarily any big deal.

I would have bought it by now. Just do it!! You'll never be sorry, unless of course you don't.

The mileage appears to be reasonable considering that the car is 18 years old. The mileage works out to be 6611 per year which is rather average for a car that is driver every day.

Um, on what planet? Most used cars I've encountered run 11k-16k per year deending on how long the commute was. Only cars I've seen run in the 6k/year range are owned by retirees or are "weekend only" cars, and even then they tend to be higher.

Um, on planet Earth. Not everyone's driving habits are the same. My work's 5 miles away. My DD gets less than 5K/yr the Mustang another 500. If someone's putting 6,000 miles/yr on a weekend only car - then they must have a lot of free time and good weather. Not to mention, if someone's married, there's a good possibility that a SUV/minivan/etc may get a lot of the 'trip' miles.

Ford Store's merging??? Seems to be a happening thing lately. We just had a LM Dealership close. Now it's a good 20 mile drive to the nearest one.

Thank you! Was starting to think everyone here lives right next to their job. At least you and Consumer Reports side with me.

Ya the average is like 11-15k anything less/more is low/high mileage. 119 for that year is low mileage. Hell I put 145K on my Camaro in 5 years. Nice looking Fox. I'd get it if I had the $ to spend.
