Hello guys, my name is Alex and I'm a Volt-a-holic...
I'm thinking about getting a Chevy Volt.

Let me explain. I fear that if I get a Mustang, reality will set in, gas will creep back up to $5 a gallon, and I can't afford to drive it. So I've been really thinking about a Volt. I stayed up last night looking at 240V wall chargers, and looking for a place in the garage to install it.
Someone help me.

If you want a Hybrid, go for a hybrid of a regular vehicle. GM is trying to do what Toyota has done with the Prius: successfully sell a boring, overpriced car with an unusual drivetrain by claiming it's some gift from the future. Do not buy into the hype. There are plenty of hybrids on the market which are regular, solid, and even exciting vehicles before the hybrid drive is added, like the FUSION, and those are the hybrids to buy if you want one.

You couldn't pay me to drive one.
If there were about 5 digits before the decimal point in USD, you could pay me to drive one. About $40,000+ But that's about all. That would buy me a free one, and I'd drive the HELL out of it, saving my Awesome for the real driving that she'd rather do... say a twisty road somewhere in the middle of nowhere with fantastic scenery.
Having said that, thirded on a *decent* hybrid. The Volt isn't it.
Have you thought about a battle scooter or small-medium motorcycle maybe?

And DP so I don't ruin the blunt message of the previous post - Drive both! Pick what you want. I don't wanna hear it on MPGs, my avatar is what I drive... I can't pass anything, and she drinks gas like my aunt does vodka

But seriously, a Volt would be kinda cool to have. A Honda CR-Z fails as both a sporty car (acceleration times on par with a Prius) and as a hybrid (mileage is in the mid-30s with a manual transmission). A Porsche 918 Spyder Hybrid is flat out of the question with the rumore $650,000 price tag. A sporty hybrid is just a pipedream at this point.
or just get a fun small car. you'll get better than hybrid MPG and have alot of fun with a revvy little 4cly FWD car. look at the new fiesta. that car is gonna rock. ive even driven a fit and found it kinda fun to drive.
keeps the miles of the mustang anyway

I would love to have a Chevy Volt as a daily driver! I think it's a fantastic car. With the $7,500 rebate, it's much more reasonably priced at $33,500.
Should a car that size be that much? Probably not. But just like some people on this very board paid MSRP or higher in 2005 for the new Mustang, early adopters of the Volt's technology will also pay more. But at least that cost is funding technology and not simply market demand

+1 on the fiesta, drove it at the LA auto show and it was a very fun little car. felt very sporty. and it gets great mpg too. im trying to convince my gf to get one when she gets a new car haha
Just remember the safety factor about hybrid vehicles that the car manufacters never tell you about.
If you get into a bad accident and you or someone in the car is seriously injured. The EMS will literally sit there and watch you die until the Fire department get there to turn off the batteries to your car.
I would never put my family into one for that reason alone.
