This is absolutely rediculous!!! Talk about shady. I really like how slimey the listing is. The 1st sentence in the description section reads "You are bidding on the rights to purchase Jack Phelan's first 2009 Camaro at MSRP." Sounds good for about a second. But, when you scroll down in the description section, after the paragraph about GM saying they will make the car, the next paragraph starts off, "Winning bid is amount over MSRP you will pay for this vehicle". I can't believe Ebay will even let them list this car. Let the bad times roll. ADM, ADP, whatever you want to call dealer markup, this car is going to see it like no other, when it comes out, as all the dealers will be saying, the 1st Camaro in 7 years. This dealer gets a BIG from me.

I sent an email to Chevrolet stating how ridiculous this is and if they allow this I won't be purchasing a new Camaro. Not that I would have anyway but I thought it needed to be done.

How funny. That auction has been shut down, and the item removed.

I can't imagine one email causing the auction to be shut down. Still, that's pretty interesting if that was what did it. I wish I knew what happened.

I don't know why they shut it down; there were many auctions like that when 2005 Mustang first came out.

Yeah, but this auction is to buy the car, which won't be out for about 24 months, and things at that dealership can happen. Just think, that auction required a $5,000 deposit, made at the end of the sale, within 72 hours. They will be sitting on that $5,000 and make all the interest on that money, while you sit and wait for Chevy to slowly get the car started for produciton. It wasn't a good idea for them to do that sale, and it shows that they were wrong, by the item being pulled from ebay.

I guess some people want the Camaro to be faster than the Mustang in just about every way, including a pre-production "bidding war"/gouging.

For What it's Worth......
I still haven't received a response from Chevrolet about my email. I never really expected one but it was interesting how quickly the auction was removed.

Received this email response today.....
--------------------------
Dear Mr. Rinehart,

Thank you for contacting Chevrolet and your interest in the Chevrolet Camaro. We appreciate the time you have taken to write us. Due to an extremely high level of interest in our exciting line of vehicles, Chevrolet has experienced minor delays in responding to customer emails. We hope this delay has not caused you any inconvenience in your research or purchase decision. The listing you provided has been removed. We are unable to verify or comment on if this was a decision on the part of General Motors, eBay or the dealership.

The all-new Camaro will begin with early production versions at the end of 2008 and will go on sale in the first quarter of 2009. The new Camaro will be almost identical to the concept, a thoroughly modern interpretation of the 1969 model, considered by many to be the best design of the car's first generation. We suggest watching the website for updates, http://www.chevrolet.com/performance/. You can even sign-up for email updates in the top right-hand corner.

We hope this information has answered your question. At Chevrolet, we strive to provide outstanding customer service. If we can be of any further assistance please call 1-800-950-2438 between the hours of 8:00 AM-11:00 PM Eastern Time, seven days per week. Thank you for contacting Chevrolet.

Sincerely,

The Chevrolet Marketing Team
