Thanks for the article
, but this is old news. The Challenger is all but assured (2009 earliest, a tad late to the party,+ only 60k units per year, not enough to hurt the Mustang), but a new Camaro is still unlikely, as GM promised the CAW that if a new Camaro would ever appear, it would be built in Canada, and I hear this isn't happening and since their new upcoming RWD platform got the ax for costing too much, the new Camaro is in high doubt. The new GTO is going to come out, but no new Camaro/Firebird/Trans-Am

If Dodge really comes through and produces the Challenger with enough HP and looks to compete with the Mustang, I may just have to consider buying one. That way, the wife and I could race anytime we wanted to ... he, he!!

i dont think gas prices should stop it from happening. high strung four bangers dont get a million miles to the gallon if you flog them the way many people do. still, lots of 8000 rpm four bangers are around and their owners love them (even though they never see the EPA advertised milage).
in any case, i'd love to see a hemi cuda, as long as it's actually a 2 door and doesn't use repackaged mercedes suspension (aka dodge charger).

Bah! if folks cared about the price of gas, they wouldn't be buying Excursions, Hummers, and Suburbans...

i totally agree bigred. i don't understand the people who say we aren't in a horsepower war. this is the "total war" of horsepower wars. by that i mean it isn't just sports cars getting boosts. you can get an altima with 260 hp, that's in sn95 GT territory (torque is different i know). the line between standard car and luxo-performance car acceleration is diminishing. everyday type cars are getting better at turning too. add to that the fact that overall car quality is going up, and you can see why audi wants to sell a 25-30k car (the A3); because people can buy a lower brand car for that price and get quality and performance. the bar is being raised all around, and companies are struggling to keep up. this is also why ford needs to hurry the heck up with the duratec 35. we are way behind in the hp war. the fact that there is no direct competitor to the mustang is our only saving grace.

i think it'd be sweet to have a torino to fight with the GTO's. maybe they could put the hurricane V-8 in it. that would rock!
why is ford building 4 of the same car (mazda 6, ford fusion, merc milan, lincoln zephyer) when we could use some diversity? i mean what is mercury these days other than a ford with two tone leather? so frustrating!

I don't think the competition is going to ignore a 200K per year nitch market for very long. I bet they throw something together to compete with the new Mustang far sooner than 4 years.
Bring it on. I always thought Chrysler should have named the Crossfire the Cuda. With a little tweeking it kinda looks like a modern Cuda.
If Chev brings out a Camaro it will be a front wheel drive POS like the Monte Carlo. IMO

arg. the crossfire is a nice car but it bugs me that chrysler didnt make the car, just the skin. an american car should be original. i've got the same problem with the GTO... both nice cars though. i think the crossfire is a little small to be direct competition.
