Finally a "real" grand sport.

Chevy reintroduces another former model vette, the Grand Sport.

http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...t_drive_review

http://www.motortrend.com/av/roadtes...deo/index.html

Now its actually a performance upgrade ranther than a so so such as with the C4's. ZR1 is nice and the Z06 is a track runner but this would actually be more my speed if I were in the vette market.

Good looking ride, and a nice fit between models as you stated!

IMHO the Grand Sport makes more sense than either of the uber-Vettes with a more clearly defined marketing niche than the Z06 and a more realistic price tag per content relationship than the ZR1 . In it's own way this is the 'Carrera S' of the Corvette world, and that is no bad place to be.

Yeah, the grand sport is a pretty good deal, iirc GM said they expect over half of new vette sales will be GS's. Had I even ZR1 money, I'd still go for the Z06, it to me is the very best of Corvette.

I think the Z06 is the best Vette also, but i read something strange in the latest Corvette Market place,it seems the Z06 is sorta the least desirable on the used market, since the ZR1 came out,the Z06 is seen as a compromise and all the market experts...."experts",claim the base Vette or the ZR1 is where the true value is. This is just bizarre, the Z06 has the racing heritage and it's the most hard core of the Vettes and yet,it's apparently the Vette black sheep on the used car market

I like it. Since I've heard of 'Vette owners converting their regular C6's to Z06 body panels, why not. It's a more daily drivable version compared to the Z06 and it looks just as good.

Nice car!!! Something i will never get to buy. I'm still hoping for a half way good settlement from a car wreck form 3 years ago so i can possibly buy a stripped down 2011 V-6 Mustang with a 6 speed automatic and the 3.7L Lincoln engine.

Car and Driver put it up against the 2010 GT500 and it won pretty easily.

As I would expect, the Mustang and the Corvette have never been in the same league nor where they ever intended to be. They are comparing a $22K base car to a $49K base car. Just not right to do that IMHO

Good comparo for the "well the GT500 costs about the same as a a vette so I consider them in the same class" crowd.

I straddle the fence on this one. Comparing cars on price makes perfect sense to me, but the GS-GT500 comparo really doesn't fall into that category. There is almost 10k worth of difference between the starting price of these two cars, and in that base trim the GT500 is better equipped in terms of amenities since it comes with more of the luxo goodies as standard. That is a gap worth noting.

I still have no problem with the comparison between these two cars, the pricing is close enough that somebody who could afford one might well be able to afford the other, but then the same could be said for a GT500 and a 2SS Camaro, so I do think it is worth noting that there is a notable gap in pricing here just as it is with the GT500 and a 2SS..

I think that the Grand Sport should be what the ZR-1 is now. When I think grand sport, I can tell you that I do not think "middle of the line" Vette. I think best of the best.

Add this to the list of fender options for the Vette.

The GT500 needs more work in my opinion. Reviews are still stating that it's not exactly track worthy. The brakes and front biased weight seems to be the GT500's achilles. If the rumors are true, the GT500 will see a pretty nice weight decrease and improved brakes for 2011. That should help bridge the gap a bit. A "track pack" GT500 would be nice and hopefully Ford steps up and puts stickier tires on. The GY Supercars are old tires and really aren't fit anymore for a true sports car. Yes, the Covette uses them but notice that GM chose PS2's after testing numerous tire compounds for the ZR1. I think that if Ford makes some no-brainer changes for 2011, the GT500 will come a lot closer to being a true Corvette competitor on the track.

I'll agree with you there. Chevy really does seem to have a difficult time deciding which Vette resides where in the historical hierarchy and I'll argue that, more often than not, they get it wrong. I like the package that the GS represents, but the nomenclature doesn't fit. That said, it is a far sight better than the last go 'round which was just a half step removed from an appearance package.

I first saw it on a Motor Trend issue I have, and just loved it! It's like the "Cayman S" of Chevy in terms of overall performance, it does things better than expected.

It's probably the snobby purist in me, but I can't make the connection no matter how similar in price. If somebody walked up to me and said; "Hey I'm in the market for a sports car and I can't decide between a vette or GT500"?, I'd probably just shake my head and walk away.

The vette to me is the very definition of a high powered sports car where the GT500 is Mustang taken to excess, more musclecar than anything else and not even remotely a sports car.
