Here's a link to the Factory Five site...GTM

I'm guessing if you don't like the idea of using a Corvette as the basis, any other V8 powered sports car should do. It is possible to do with the Cobra replica, which calls for a Fox Mustang as a donor, to use another car as the donor...

Which Ferrari is it knocking off?

I see some Ford GT and maybe Saleen S7 design language but no Ferrari...
I think it is the Spider? or the 360 Modena ? one of those

Factory Five also sells the best and most inexpensive Cobra kit car in the industry. Only $13,000 and all you need is a Mustang from 1987-2004!
If it were my car, I'd add the 302/350hp Cobra motor from The Engine Factory. That would be some fast car!

I wonder if they do financing? I think I'd rather put off a purchase of a new Mazda6 and keep my Caprice for a few more years, to finance something that freakin' awesome.

I downloaded a sample of the DVD, dang it's fun to watch. But I'd forgotten to order the whole things, thanks for reminding me!

I wonder why you don't see more of these. They're honestly affordable, and just plain cool. I'd rather put one of them together than restoring something. I've restored some bicycles, and that can be a pain enough...I can't imagine how much trouble a whole car could be.

Stopped by the Mazda dealer today...my bikes will fit in the wagon sitting upright, which I hoped for. I'm sure I'll go with the 6 first, since I'll be in an apartment and won't have the room or tools to put together a car. I'll have to add a cold air intake to make it feel more like a Cobra!

But hopefully in a few years....it's on!

So are they beefing the engine at all? I can't tell from what they've said. I wonder if the C6 will work with this kit, the new Z06 with the LS7 ... *drool*

no, the DVD says it is based on the Ford Smallblock

The “donor car†concept is back again, but this time with a Chevrolet package! The GTM is based on utilizing the 1997-2004 Corvette and Z-06 parts, namely the engine, front and rear suspension and brakes, fuel tanks and misc. smaller parts.
Yeah, it's based on a 'Vette. It's more like a complete overhaul than a kit car, really.

I haven't watched any of their dvds but their website says corvette. Their shelby cobra replicas are all based on ford small blocks though.... What version of the car did they have on the DVD?

Factoru Five may sell the best kit for the money, but I don't think I would just call it the best kit by any means. Like Shelby or hate him, his "better" new production Cobra's are almost exactly like they were in the 60's. Even the chassis and body are made by the revived AC Cars in Britian on the original equipment again, just like they were back in the day.

I would definately ranks his stuff, or even somebody like Supeformances, as the "best" before FFR's. Factory Five's stuff is more like the "best kit that does not require a second mortgage".

On a different note, I don't think this new FFR kit looks to be such a raging bargain. Noble will sell you a rolling chassis minus only the engine and transaxle for about 60k. This thing has better be a lot cheaper than that because I would bet the farm it wont be as good. And, by the time you buy the Vette parts and build it I gotta believe you are looking at 60k minimum just like somebody mentioned earlier.

You get a completly new frame, body and interior. You go from a 3200+lbs front engine car to a 2200lbs mid engine car.

Thats hardly an overhaul.

The GTM is Corvette based. The Cobra is Ford based. The DVD never says anything about a Ford smallblock in relation to the GTM. So, yes, they do K-N-O-W.

What about the multitude of '30's Ford street rods running around with Chevy 350's in them? It's probably the most common engines in those cars...they're easy to come by and cheap to mod.
So is a 5.0

Dam straight Bob! The 65 Cobra Daytona Coupe is my favourite car of all time. The one C&D tested a few years back had 445hp (FFR replica) and did an 11.9 1/4 and came in at about $35,000 i think. Talk about bang for your buck. :drive:
