John Dingell was one of Detroit's biggest allies in Congress, and he lost his chairmanship of the Energy and Commerce Committee to Henry Waxman, D-90210, who's to the left of Dingell on environmental issues, fuel economy and all that. I doubt he ever drove a Mustang in his life.

I said this before, but it's time that we create a letter to our Congresspeople and tell them that we like to have fun while driving, and to leave the muscle cars alone. Who's with me?

yes, because in these troubling economic times driving a mustang no matter what the fuel economy should take precedence over all other matters.

I seriously doubt anyone in this forum would be happy driving an econobox for the rest of their lives, call that a hunch. I just fear the fix is in, and we need to make our concerns known.

Problem is that people have been making that "we'll all end up in Econoboxes if we _________!!" argument for going on 40 years and we still are not. Meanwhile, if the Big Three had been pushed out in front on fuel economy instead of spending most of the last couple decades blowing it off, they might not be on life support today. Waxman's not the devil, and considering his commuter-heavy district in California I don't think he's anti-car. If you want to write your congressman/woman about something, how about asking them to fight to prevent Detroit's death?

I already voiced some support for the bailout, don't worry about that. As for the first part of that quote, I looked at the left-of-center blogs- Kos, HuffPo, all that- and they were all celebrating. Not a good sign.

I am Left-Of-Center, I am celebrating, and I love the Mustang. There's other things to worry about.

I voted for Obama, too, and I'm very glad he won. I just need some reassurances that America's decision won't be detrimental to our pursuit of speed and fun...
