Crash rating reality
Weird story. Two years ago I was driving to work on I-80 in NJ when while sitting stand still in traffic. Had a Satin Silver 2005 Mustang. Exterior upgrades. Nice car. So some idiot lady comes behind me at 40 mph and wedged her car under my car. Tore out the guts underneath the car and bent the body to the point of being declared totaled. I couldn't tell the car was that damaged from how cushioned it felt on impact and was able to drive off the highway afterwards and I was fine.
The mustang had a 4 star rating for crash protection and it earned them in this accident. I was so impressed with how it handled it I had to by another one!

Sorry to hear about the loss, but reminds me of something i saw a few weeks back driving home from work.
Just before getting to my turnoff i saw a similar accident where a lady smoked a 05 gt at about 60kph. The front end of her 80's continental was destroyed, looked like she had hit a barracade, whereas the mustang was missing the bumper and had a bent trunk, not even the tailights were cracked open, i couldn't believe my eyes.
Didn't realize how well these s-197's were built until i saw that.
Best of luck with the new car!

My '89 5.0L LX gave its life for me in late 1994 when I took an offramp in the rain at 90+ and skidded through the intersection at the end of the ramp T-boning a car that had the right of way. I was being so incredibly stupid, and was so lucky that nobody was hurt. I got a huge ticket and my insurance rates skyrocketed, but I was happy to walk away from that accident. I'm forever a believer in how safe our cars are!
