"Could the Hyundai Genesis lead to a rear-wheel drive Tiburon?"

An interesting musing on Autoblog. While it doesn't seem to much more than a musing, it does seem rather compelling and one has to wonder if Hyundai, in continued efforts to become a front line automaker, has been having the same musings.

Devoping a new RWD platform and 300+hp DOHC 4.6 V8 seems mighty expensive for just one car model and the Tiburon is getting rather stale and insipid in its current guise and would need a refresh in not too long.

In any case, interesting times for performance coupe enthusiasts.

The Camaro and Challenger will likely be fine cars and that recent Ford Poll hints that Ford might be truly serious in meeting that challenge.

You just know the 350Z will become the 370Z at some point, borrowing the G37s motor. And I'm always surprised they don't just slap the M45 motor in the dang thang.

And what about the next RX-8? Bigger motor, slap on a turbo and direct injection and I'll bet that thing really comes alive -- they already have the handling a brakes nailed and just need some more beans and less odd styling.

And don't forget the next GTO too, probably the gentlrman's performance coupe to the Camaro as is the G37 is to the 350/370Z

Yeah, with all the current muscle coupes moving further upmarket, now would be a great time for Hyundai to step up to the sub-$25k car ponycar game. 350Z performance and driving dynamics for RSX-S price? Yes please.

I'm hoping! I remember the stories many months, if not years, ago. Can't wait to see how it pans out

Yeah I remeber hearing about a V8 Tiburon too, that would be a killer trump over the Japanese, if Hyundai came out with a Korean V8 pony car

I hear the side port rotaries have durability problems with nitrous and forced induction, while the end port motors, which seem to be better suited for chemical and/or compressed horsepower have problems with emissions due to the high amount of oil injection required.

Anyways, Recipicating Engines to the Rotary - "You lose...AT LIFE"!
