Chrysler Development Chief Slags the Mustang

Chrysler throws down the gauntlet >>

"Frankly, we'd rather run like a thoroughbred than ride like a pony," Chrysler product development chief Frank Klegon told an audience during the SRT8's roll-out, bragging that the vehicle is the only car in its class with a modern five-link independent rear suspension.

He's afraid, and he should be, cause I dont see them taking the Mustang out with their pig. History will repeat itself again just watch. And as far as the IRS goes.....its a MUSCLE CAR, not a sports car! He needs to watch an FR500C on the track smoking the eurotrash with its stick axle too..........he speaks rubbish.

Given price and all other factors included methinks it'll post a distant 3rd.

I dunno what hes means by "in its class". I wouldnt call the mustang gt and the challenger the same class with a 15k price difference.

He is just trying to sell his company's product by bashing the Mustang. History will likely repeat itself....the Challenger and Camaro will be around for awhile and then diminish into a dust pile and the Mustang will live on for another forty four plus years.

Ford has a good product and Chrysler and GM are only trying to capture part of the muscle car market that Ford has reclaimed since the introduction of the S197 in 2005.

'Course he does. He's just talking sh*t to rile people up.

Looks like it's working.

Everybody knows it's about power-to-weight, and the Challenger goes "oink, oink."

Still, the Challenger has lots of curb appeal and presence rolling down the road, there's no denying it. Chrysler did a bang up job on the exterior body styling - better than I ever would have thought.

I'd love one of each.

BS...

Dodge set its sights high, pointing out that the Challenger SRT8's 170-m.p.h. top speed is faster than the $82,900 500-horsepower BMW M5 super sedan and that the 6.1-liter Hemi V8 produces more torque than a $126,200 Porsche 911 turbo.

Easy to say as the M5 has a 155mph Speed Limiter....(removed, close to 190mph?)

Porsche 911 Turbo has 460 ft-lbs vs. the HEMI's 420 ft-lbs

Hahahaha, so if my moms 02 Corolla can hit 120mph its better than the JDM spec Nissan GTR!

"Chrysler will sell between 35,000 and 45,000 Challengers a year, according to estimates from CSM Worldwide."
What the heck are these consultants smoking?
I do think they will beat the GTO numbers.

New Challenger will spend less time on the market than original one.

Challenger: 7.39 lbs/hp
Mustang GT: 11.5 lbs/hp (advertised hp)
My Mustang GT: 10.42 lbs/hp...
Yet you're right...they're saying 5.2 secs 0-60 for the Challenger. Axle tramp might also have something to do with that. I'm pretty sure I'm sub 5 seconds 0-60 in my car with the 4.10's, based on my recent experience with a 6 liter GTO....

Why are they comparing the SRT8 with the lowly Mustang GT?
