Chrysler announces lifetime powertrain warranty!
My inlaws have a Cherokee that they purchased 12 years ago. They would have claimed absolutely nothing on that warrenty so far!
Interesting point to note is that the likes of the alternator and power steering pump do not class as "drivetrain". They are ancillaries, therefore are possibly not covered?

I don't know why more manufacturers don't offer this or something similar. I mean, really. When was the last time you saw an engine totally fail that was maintained as described in the manual?
With todays engine and lubrication technology, there is no reason they shouldn't last for well over 200K miles if maintained properly. By that time most cars are on their 3rd or 4th owners, which would void the warranty. But that is a huge HUGE selling point!! Move more cars, more money, more research $$, more play toys for Mustang lovers!!!

More importantly, this will force Ford and GM to take a hard look at offering something similar to remain competitive.
Nice little bonus selling point on the Challenger!
Upon closer inspection, however, it's really just a marketing ploy. I mean, how many people keep their cars more than a decade (max) anyway. So you'll never get the benefit out of it unless you drive the crap out of it and keep it 30 years. And if you trade it in after four to eight years - like most people - the next owner gets no such benefit.
Again, as Boomer said above, a five year bumper-to-bumper would be MUCH more advantageous when you really stop and think about it.

this would be a great idea for a 4X4 truck...like for a farmer...or someone who would use one a lot.
ehh...just saw a commercial for it....fine print on the bottom says not available on SRT vehicles....
If he drives 30k miles per year, the highest mileage based warranties go to 100k. So he'd eat that up in a hair over 3 years. So, in fact, he'd see the benefit if he kept the car over 3 years, not 8.
Math is fun!
